And over on the favorite balkans official propaganda blog Balkan Insite it says:

"The score improvement for Serbia in 2009 reflected the fact that Kosovo was scored separately for the first time in this edition of the survey."

Some misconception here:

"Free media" means that journalists may write whatever they want, without state bodies putting pressure on them, in any way. And without censorship.

This might not to be confused with "independent media". Of course the owners of a newspaper or a TV/Radio channel have their own policies and attitudes, are biased, and they might not publish or air things which they don't like.

(HELLO -- "Freedom House"... talk about irony):

i would prefer not to comment on the "free" media of serbia for obvious reasons. however, my young frnd in belgrade (the human rights activist i've recently mentioned, who was just interviewed by b-92 and bbc) has had his Facebook page removed, seemingly because of right-wing nationalists (this is what he reports to me.) here is a link to a petition to restore his FB page: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/we-want-rastko-pocesta-fb-account-back

also, here is a human-rights link that covers all the latest with Rastko, and hosts his blog:

Well freedom house, since there is rife crime in the cities surrounding the Great Lakes in the US due to staggering unemployment, and the fact that Mayors have been requesting urgent federal help with some asking for the National Guard it’s amazing these factors have been overlooked in the freedom loving democratic hugging US media. Funny isn’t it eh? Its always the countries opposed to the US that are “repressive” but Guantanamo Bay seems to be Club Med.

"Freedom house"?

Yes a number of other hard core US-governmental "NGO´s" like the likewize infamous National Endowment for Democrasy also say´s "good boy" to Serbia on that one.

"Free media" in this case is of course 99% media owned by the west and western philantrophists George Soros which btw funds B92.

I suspect the state of our country and our imposed puppet regime is so bad that NATO soon will dub us "the freest country in the world"

Diplomatic code words for the most subserviant puppet state in €USSR....

Interesting that the democracies that did recognize Kosovo decided to strip a democratic country of its right to its own territory, only to give it to people who can't spell the word democracy.
And who started wars in Afganistan, Irak, Vietnam, Serbia, Panama, Nicaragua, Chile, the list goes on. Who do you think is behind this survey? Surely not the Russians. I would bet some money on America. And you don't think the USA would critisize itself, now do you?
Didn't America support Saddam Hussein at one point? Doesn't America support Saudi Arabia?
China, Russia etc may not be democratic in your mind but they are still UN members, something Kosovo can only dream of.

Freedom House is a US government financed organisation. So this story is really saying that the US government believes that Serbia has a free media.

What Serbia has is media that almost without exception supports the US, and promotes NATO and EU membership. Much of Serbia’s “free” media is supported directly by the US and other NATO governments. The main newspapers and magazines were all privatised and sold to western (mainly German) media empires. State-owned TV and radio is controlled by the American-installed DOS regime that still governs Serbia and gives the public an American view of world affairs.

Serbian media is certainly “free” to idolise the US and NATO, but there is no freedom to express a contrary opinion, except on small websites that reach very few Serbians.

Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan”.. China...

Of the 47 countries ranked Not Free, nine countries and one territory received the survey's lowest possible rating for both political rights and civil liberties: Burma, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Tibet, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.(B92).

None of these "democracies" have recognized Kosovo.
