It angers me to read so many pro-Russians from Serbs. Russia has bought us nothing but misery. Yet you are so happy to tie us to Russia. Most people in UKR want freedom from them.
(Kasitik, 9 February 2010 20:46)

It would also anger you to see the imminent changing of the guard around the world.

It would also anger you that the world is no longer a one way street and there are valid and more viable alternatives for people to choose.

Personally I am getting happier by the day ushering each new day with a larger smile.

Drop the anti Russian baggage, see the difference and remember the old saying, first in best dressed.

Serbia should follow Ukraine's footsteps and ELECT a Pro-Russian President.

The WEST is fooling Serbia on its EU Ambition and at the same time taking 20% of its land from them.

Like Adrian said, I heard most Romanians in Ukraine voted for Yanukovich because he respects minorities and minority languages. Unlike the Orange movement who tried to make everyone Ukranian.

Zorane, why don’t each of us mind our own family, visit maybe more or less often, try not to abuse the others and then will all be a one big, happy, minding our own business bunch of countries in this part of the world. For once, I have to agree with our regular spammer around here.

@Ataman, besides tea and trips, there were some really nice eucalyptus candy drops I would kill for these days and … Chinese porcelain. Anyhow China has always been a sort of “secret romance”.
Ceausescu’s problem was that he felt so independent, he paid all foreign debt in a very short time on the back of the people, hence the terrible 80s. On his death, I have to contradict you, dogs die otherwise in Romania. Ceausescu, exactly like before him Antonescu, died in front of an execution squad by Romanian made and shot bullets, shouting Long live Romania.
Anyway, the issues with the Russians are so many and so deep that Ceausescu issue may be quite irrelevant

Coming back to the subject, all this East vs West nonsense and false assumptions only harm Ukraine (btw both Romanian and Hungarian minorities supported yanuk.) Both “West” and Russia prefer to have a nice little dictator in Ukraine keeping things calm and quiet so they can run their business on the back of the people. What kind of Ukr friendly and careful country would act to divide Ukraine so much, like Russia and the “West” did?!

Hopefully now we can expect an end to ukraines Nato perspective, wich is what the majority of the ukrainaina people wants.
Also we can hope for a 200 year contract with the Russian Navy to rent Sevastopol naval base, so forget about that also Nato!

Mircaea,

The only way Montenegro will join NATO is if they ignore the public opinion.

Given their two decades of having doubtful elections, this is 100% likely.

Anyways the CEDEM group did a study of Montenegrin opinions. 26.3% of Montenegrin citizens favour joining NATO, incidentally CESID (the equivalent gorup in Serbia) has shown Serbian support for NATO at some 28%.

So basically Montenegrins are more anti-NATO then Serbs.

Romania will never be part of your "big happy family".
(Mircea, 9 February 2010 15:55)

Mircea,

Romania was only on the paper the part of THAT "big happy family". Ceausescu's people did practically sabotage every COMECON session, Romania had no occupying Soviet forces since decades and it's foreign policy was completely independent of Soviet one.

May I remind you: it was the only COMECON country participating in the LA olympics. It had full diplomatic relationship with Israel, TAROM and EL AL did connect Bucuresti and Tel Aviv even during coldest days of "Cold War".

You had state-sponsored and organized group tours to China - while the Chinese - Soviet relationship was at it's lowest. Just an illustration: I regularly made shopping trips to Romania to buy Chinese tea.

At the same time the eastern part of Germany was literally occupied, same about Czechoslovakia and Hungary. And look at that: today most former East Germans, Slovaks, Czechs do not feel that strong "anti-Russian" like many Romanians. Even in Hungary the "anti-Russian" sentiment is slowly over.

You had the worst regime - but here Russians had barely anything to say. It was Ceausescu - a nearly perfect fascist. We had Soviet regime, you had a fascist one. Some similarities, but by no means the same. And if given the choice: Erich Honekker, János Kádár or Nicolae Ceausecu - there Ceausecu is clearly the worst choice, even compared with Brezhnyev or Yumdzhajgin Tsedenbal.

I did see all of them on the TV; from all of them only Ceausecu died like a dog and he deserved it.

The choice was more pro-Russian versus somewhat pro-Russian. Timoshenko was smart enough to feel where the wind blows from and she was (forced) to switch directions a while ago, after Yuschenko fired her. Yanukovich did not need to switch to/from anything and he marginally won.

As for Yuschenko - this is what basically happened. The store sold empty rounds and when the bear got angry, they closed the door.

My best friend is a South Viet. She knows first-hand 100% how fast were the Americans in the "barber shops" and even faster when they needed to get away. Her relative was in South Viet airforce...

Do not wonder: friendships and family should have nothing to do with politics. My granddad was one of the first members of Komsomol. My grandma wasn't really baptized - but towards the end of her life she was regular in local Orthodox church... and I was born near Moscow in a settlement closed to foreigners. On the other side, my friend is from a family of nobility, large landowners near Saigon. It's like water and fire - but it's not. ;-)

Montenegro, Bosnia and Macedonia will join NATO soon.

What will Serbia do when it will be surrounded by EU and NATO member states?

Serbia being surrounded by EU members is no different than being surounded by NATO members back in 1999.

NATO illegally bombed, destroyed civilian structures and raped the Serbian economy.

Now i don't understand what you find so great about these organizations, but i think they must be stopped.

Ukrainians have become largely disillusioned with politics in their country - almost six years after the euphoria of the 2004 Orange Revolution, when the telegenic Tymoshenko helped sweep the pro-Western Viktor Yushchenko into the office of President on promises of reform

B92

What Ukraine resembled during the orange years was that of wild west where Ex-Nazis, CIA agents,ex-criminals, oligarchs took over the country and managing it as a PLC.

Some of the Ukrainians believed the crap they got from the West and fantasised they would soon live in immense riches until they sussed out their country was really skint and owned by the western bankers.

The Ukrainians now, tired by people like Tymoshenko who offered nothing but the same fantasies, have voted for a change.

Their only salvation is to rebuilt their industry, tourism and they could still be the energy hub of Europe after restoring their historic ties with the Russians.

(Mircea, 9 February 2010 12:19)
--
Serbia will be part of the prosperous free world and wait for our neighbours to wake up and join us. The Ukraine has woken up, next will be Georgia then Serbia, Montenegro, BiH and FYROM.

What is Romania going to do with a failed economy and unsustainable debt? Stay with NATO or join the prosperous free world? Don't worry, the choice will be fair easy.

Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro - All the way to the Adriatic. We'll all be connected and one big happy family.

So who's next? Georgia, Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, FYROM and then Romania. The choice will be fairly simple - prosper or decline. What would you prefer?
(Zoran, 9 February 2010 10:02

Zoran is right. There will be a domino effect as a result of the Ukrainian elections.

As to Zoran's question which country will go first my hunch is it will be Georgia.Saakshvilli is a walking dead zombie after being abandoned by his western friends. He's got nowhere to go.

Next to Georgia will be possibly Bosnia and Romania will go as soon as the $20 billion IMF loans end.It will be easier for the Romanians because they are not in euroland.

It looks like Dacian Colios's work-span as EU commissioner will be short-lived.

You can speak for Serbia , but not other countries.
(Kosova-USA, 9 February 2010, 11:15)

You mean like you who at times speaks for Serbs, Americans, or the host of countries that are oh-so-close to recognizing Kosovo? Laughable.

Congratulations to Yanukovych and his pro-Russian supporters. This is a great day for democracy and prosperity. The western backed orange revolution is no more, THANK GOD! Trusting the West has braught the Ukrain nothing than hardship and disappointments. Serbia, be aware!

Mircea,
Serbia being surrounded by EU members is no different than being surounded by NATO members back in 1999.

NATO illegally bombed, destroyed civilian structures and raped the Serbian economy.

Now i don't understand what you find so great about these organizations, but i think they must be stopped.

Please tell me one success story that NATO and or EU have completed with raving glory. So far NATO has left a trail of destruction and the EU has been an accomplice.

PRO-SERBIA

Serbia should follow Ukraine's footsteps and ELECT a Pro-Russian President.

The WEST is fooling Serbia on its EU Ambition and at the same time taking 20% of its land from them.

Leonidas,

It's like water and fire - but it's not. ;-)

Hopefully now we can expect an end to ukraines Nato perspective, wich is what the majority of the ukrainaina people wants.
Also we can hope for a 200 year contract with the Russian Navy to rent Sevastopol naval base, so forget about that also Nato!

Why don't you do Nato a favor and enlist in your old age, they can use a Dad's army the way things are going.

Zoran,

I am proud that Romania is a member of the EU. Today, Dacian Ciolos from Romania officially became the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Montenegro, Bosnia and Macedonia will join NATO soon.

What will Serbia do when it will be surrounded by EU and NATO member states?
(Mircea, 9 February 2010 12:19)

I asked you before and you did not answer, but what good is it to Romania to have Dacian Ciolos in this position? how on earth is it going to help you and make you better off? Romanians are poor and many EU officials keep commenting on how it was a mistake to let Romania into the EU. so what exactly are you proud about?

I missed Afghanistan in early 80-s with a "trick" and won't go now either. No, thanks.
I am 100% sure, the "success" there will be the same.

BTW - inshallah, both Ukraina and Russia will be in EU sooner than that Turkey-bird. Unless they remove the minarets

Like Adrian said, I heard most Romanians in Ukraine voted for Yanukovich because he respects minorities and minority languages. Unlike the Orange movement who tried to make everyone Ukranian.
