Who will be the 30Th member of the EU?
Who sais there will be 30 members any time soon?
After Croatia and Iceland, the only eligible countries will be Norway and Switzerland, but they are not likely to apply for membership.
Russia das effectively blocked the EU expansion towards the East and the European soft power has proved unable to solve intricate problems like Kosovo's right of selfdetermination or Macedonia's name, or Bosnian unity.
So my answer would be Montenegro. After a long wait

Unfortunately, politicians are conveying the message that joining the EU has an immediate economic benefit where the streets are lined in gold. The ordinary citizen is like a child with no money looking through a window in a chocolate shop with its face pressed against the glass. They think it’s a cash cow with no limit.

Your right saying that many EU members don’t want any more joining now because the new members such as Poland Hungary , just to name a few are going now where fast. People are becoming disillusioned at the entire prospect of the EU.

If you would actually bother reading and studying the Lisbon Treaty, you would see that it abolishes the veto and that everything goes through a majority vote. So if countries want to block Kosovo's accession, they will need to gain majority votes in the European Parliament and else where. Over 50% of votes are needed to block something. Currently 22/27 EU member states recognise Kosovo, so I think it is fair to say if some EU countries want to block Kosovo's membership, it is going to be really hard to do so.

Croatia and Iceland will join the EU in 2012.

Croatia- the 28th Member State of the EU.

Iceland- the 29th Member State of the EU

Who will be the 30th Member State of the EU?
(Mircea, 31 October 2009 14:10)

Let me guess! Albania. That mighty state that will stand up to the evil Serbs and together with the EU and your favourite military organisation, NATO, will teach them a lesson they deserve. I see the travel brochure now – Albania EU member, Albanian NATO member and Albania home of the greatest number of goats and donkeys in Europe - Welcome to the 3rd century and see how your ancestors lived at that time.

Here is something that has to be finalised before Croatia joins, restoration or full compensation of property belong to Serbs and negotiation of borders with Serbia.

Ian, UK,

Fortunately enlargement will still be 'veto area' after Lisbon!

And Spain and others will continue to veto Kosovo. And good they do so! At least they are fighting for international law. Your country and my country are destroying international law!

Apart from that: Kosovo (if it was a state) joining within a few years? Come on!

(1) Most Western European nations really do not want new members the coming years!

(2) Kosovo is like a third world country in Europe!

Hope all European nations will join eventually!

I am more and more convinced that behind the name "MIRCEA" is not a real person. It's rather a virus that some able computer hackers programmed to be activated by the "EU" command and the web can't get rid of it.

Yes Croatia and Iceland will join together in around 2012. After that it will be another joint enlargement consisting of Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo (membership cannot be vetoed with Lisbon), Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia most likely.

Montenegro and Macedonia may join earlier than the rest of the Western Balkans.

Well, I hope all Balkan states will join EU (Kosovo is not a state, by the way). But I do not see this happen soon. This is not realistic. Sorry, Croatia!

It's not to be Serbia and kinda very much important too we don't need it and want it a buzz.

...which means then "goodbye to EU" for Serbia.

Do some enthusiastic pro-EU Serbians manage to believe that Croatia will not keep on blocking us forever with our EU bid concerning millions of unresolved issues we have with them including ICT?
Naivety of this humans should then rather be called stupidity.

Serbians, do wake up from that post-communist wish and dream, called EU membership: visa free travel and free trade agreement with EU is all what we need. And it is just about there...and then we are FREE.
