Who cares?

McDonalds success has nothing to do with tasty food. It’s cheap, it’s the same(ish) everywhere and they target children.

Personally, if I want to eat unhealthy food I prefer freshly made burek from a Belgrade bakery at 3am after a good session on the drink. Njam Njam….I can feel that pig fat run down my chin right now. I think my life expectancy is 45 :p

Good for Iceland, McDonalds food is not very good for you, and despite some attempts by the firm to "localize" their menu, it pushes a blandly mainly American menu on the customers, to the exent that tourists end up ignoring the proper far tastier local food on holiday. Earlier on this year, on a holiday to Bosnia i Hercegovina I really enjoyed the local food so much (and the humourous McChevap t-shirts) I believe strongly that McDonalds and Burger King dont stand a chance in the Western Balkans, the Cevapi are just too good!

I think this is a good thing because I oppose McDonalisation, Americanisation and Globalisation. I would rather go to the local take away than McDonald's. McDonald's isn't even nice, why is it everywhere?

Ian,

we have argued this time after time. It's supply and demand. Micky D's aka the Ds would not exist if people like yourself didn't eat there.

PS,

The EU wants to consider Iceland as a member but McDonalds does not want to do business there? Who is smarter? a smug little club like the EU or the 11th most successful company in the entire world?

And Serbia wants to join this club?

Ogmundsson said the restaurants had "never been this busy before... but at the same time profits have never been lower".

"It just makes no sense. For a kilo of onion, imported from Germany, I'm paying the price of a bottle of Whisky"

B92

The price of a kilo of Unions in Germany is 86 cents
which gives us a good idea about the state of the Icelandic economy.

However, congratulations to Iceland.I wished the rest of the world followed your example and took similar decisions.

Iam certain that life expectancy will improve for all Icelanders.
