>>And thank God for that! The eight years of the previous administration were unfortunate in any number of ways, but at last the country seems to be returning to its senses. Betting against the US has never been a wise move: "God looks out for drunks, small children, and the United States of America," as they say.>>

thanks, amer, i have to admit that i enjoyed that little ditty, esp. in the midst of the great "love" affair (read my mind) with my country that so many here feel such a desperate need to share. these waters are indeed treacherous (and don't i know it!), so it's nice to collect a few allies along the way.

but i must add this: i favor dissent, and not just here when it is considered so radical (western usage) but also in my own country. i can't even remember all of the wars we've demonstrated against, count all of the presidents and politicians we've opposed and critiqued over the years. Johnson (esp at the end), nixon, reagan, both bushes (esp. the latter) and chapters of most of the others. naturally i agree with yr optimism about the new obama era, but still we were hoping for so much more, and at a SLIghtly stepped up pace. we have to keep pushing him.

i don't believe in knee-jerk patriotism, constantly waving the flag, supporting the country, right or wrong. that's not doing anyone a favor. but i do love my country, the best of my country, which is why we must continue to move it in more compassionate and egalitarian directions.

ciao!

It is normal that the US is welcoming this, I would be amazed if they weren't :-) So no news here.

But I must say, the US makes a lot of bad things to this world and all this in the name of God, don't know how I should take it... I'll let you think about it.
