"Sometimes you really outdo yourself in the defense of Serbs, who can do no wrong."

-- Yeah I know, I can be such a pain for always defending this group of Slavic upstarts. But truth be told, I never said they could do no wrong. I'm simply trying to add an objective response to what I feel was a knee-jerk statement from someone who is prone to lump entire races together in one hastily-crafted stereotype, and in turn evaluate them based on his own sense of self superiority and morality. I would have ignored the whole thing, but I love prejudicial comments from people who honestly don't think they're prejudiced simply because of their ideology. It's all too often on this site on both sides, but it's always a kick to see it everytime.

Oh and as far as "fudging" the numbers, apparently, the Hungarian population around Subotica is about 35 - 40%. So yes, my bad for the 50/50 assumption. But it's more than 20%, and it's still funny that you couldn't fathom anyone other than a Serb doing it. It it was a Serb, arrest him, charge him, and fine him. No ifs, ands, or buts. But why jump to conclusions simply because of a demographic plurality, right? Again, we're not supposed to do that in 90%+ Albanian Kosovo, so why should we do that in 65%+ Serbian Vojvodina?

Mike,

Sometimes you really outdo yourself in the defense of Serbs, who can do no wrong.
So you thing it was a Magyar. And just yesterday I read on this site that in Subotica the Hungarians make up no more than 20% of the population. You "increase" it to 50% because in this case the probability that a "Magyar" did it is better.
Nice try.

arta, No one said a Serb did it. Why do you point a finger at Serbs. It could have been a Croat Catholic or Muslim that did this. Obviously you don't know the demographics of Subotica.

They also send a "nice" message to Sweden (with current EU presidency very favorable to Serbia's EU candidacy) and other Northern lutheranian countries.

By the way: not to perpetuate this useless argument, but how do we know a Serb committed this crime? According to Albanian logic on this site, everything something blows up or caves in in Kosovo, we're constantly reminded not to jump the gun and blame an Albanian because it could be "anyone", and to insinuate that it was always an Albanian is just plain ignorant, right?

And considering that Vojvodina is multiethnic, and Subotica is about 50/50 Serb/Hungarian, how do we know it wasn't some Magyar?

I will assume both Joe and aRTA will realize the error of their prejudice and will quickly retract such thoughtless statements, lest they be considered just as intolerant as the Serbs and other assorted Slavic propagandists they constantly wish to morally and intellectually distance themselves from.

I hope the police catches the primitive bastards who did this. The Luther statue in Subotica was a religious monument. The attack on it was a stupid provocation, intended to hurt the feelings of Lutheran religious believers in Vojvodina (most of whom, by the way, are not ethnic Germans). Such attacks on ethnic and religious minorities and on their sacred symbols are the work of fascists and drunken morons -- the kind of hate-fuelled "junaštvo" we can do without.

"They still don't like Germans in Serbia very much....."

Well, discounting the whole WWII thing, and noting the slight cynicism of the comment from someone with their own prejudices, I should also point out that Albanians toppled a statue of Dositej Obradovic in Pristina in 1999.

So, we can chalk it up to stupidity zero summing itself out.
