Macedonia fears another Greek veto

Somehow Greece did not veto the "white Schengen". As for EU membership... wish for FYROM, only Greece would be the obstacle. There are few other "minor" obstacles. But of course, Greece is easier to blame than own incompetence and corruption on all levels.

" White Schengen" will become effective in 2010.It also requires a unanimous decision by the member states.One thing that i can say is " a week is a long time in politics".

Milososki knows well that there will be a veto in absence of a satisfactory solution.Both the Greek goverment and politicians of all persuations have made it clear that an invitation to the EU will only occur when a solution to the name is found...not earlier.

In the meantime i would suggest to Milososki and his compatriots if they really want to learn about Macedonia
its history and culture they should look beyond their borders,visit some famous libraries around the world and they will find the real history not the fabricated one from 60 years ago.

When the president of Bulgaria visited Sweden back in 1993 he was asked a question about the so called " macedonian nation" in which he replied." The macedonian nation was fabricated by the commitern after the war and it was a crime committed by titoism and stalinism".

No amount of propaganda from FYROM will change these facts. Macedonia's rich history was,is and will always will be Hellenic.

Today citizens of FYROM are SLAVS, they speak SLAV, and they have absolutely nothing to do with MACEDONIA, whatever that word includes. Macedonia means Greek history, greek culture and greek idenity. If you are so much afraid that your fake country is going to be "swallowed" by the Albanians or the Bulgarians, find another "fairy tale" to say to your citizens and don't try to steal someone else's history, culture and identity. Maybe Leonidas would like to share which "famous library" outside of greece he has visited and studied in. Since the Louvre in Paris doesn't contain information he considers to be truth. Documents and maps at this very famous library clearly show that Macedonia and greece were and are two separate lands. It is there too, that the partition of Macedonia which took place in 1913 is clearly documented.
I too would call on all greek nationalists to visit all the libraries around the world which contain the truth such as the Louvre.
It is quite clear that they(greeks) are oblivious to the fact that Tito was an ally of the greeks when it came to Macedonia. The problem now is the greeks no longer have anyone to help them with the cover-up about the history of Macedonia.
Then they(greeks) bring up Bulgaria which is no better than the greeks themselves. They too deny the truth just like the greeks.
I too would welcome all interested to visit all the famous libraries around the world, just make sure they are outside of the greek borders and out of reach of the greek politicians.

Greece has agreed to the use of the word Macedonia with a qualifier for the FYROM name, a reversal of the position held in the 1990s which Greece refused to allow the use of "Macedonia" in any form. This was a large concession by Greece. You could say Greece has already walked its mile to come to the solution. So it is Greece that is still waiting for FYROM to 'walk their mile". Unfortunately, FYROM only responds with ultranationalist rhetoric and propaganda which does not promote good neighbourly relations, a violation of the Interim Accord by FYROM. Gruevski has effectively silenced any dissention to his point of view. This is why FYROM can only say they will walk that mile but they will never do it leaving Greece the only option available to them, a veto.

It is alittle sad that FYROM provoke,intimidate and attempt to alter history through false propaganda and on their maps show Northern Greece as being occupied by Greece and do not respect or adhere to International laws or Human rights within their own country and then wonder why they are about to be rejected again and will always be refused entry into the EU,NATO and all international organisations...

You are totally right, the citizens of "FYROM" are Slavs and speak Slav (even the Vlach, Turk, Albanian and Greek FYROM citizens are Slavs), but you are 100% without a doubt correct that they have NOTHING to do with Macedonia in any form whatsoever, they never even used the word Macedonia before 1945, just look at some of their more recent history-

I must admit however, it is very stupid of me to bring up history from the last two centuries, it is much more reasonable to settle the question of "FYROM" by using ancient sources from over two thousand years ago to determine the race of a people who no longer exist, because we all know, nothing changes over two thousand years, especially in the Balkans.

Another thing I have to get off my chest, how can many of the "FYROMIANS" trace their ancestral origins to Serbia or Bulgaria and still call themselves Macedonians? Don't they know that the only non-pure blooded Greek Macedonians that can call themselves Macedonians are those that settled in Greek Macedonia? (like the Slavophone Greeks and Anatolian Greeks?) If you're outside of the borders of the Greek nation-state which has existed since God created man, you cannot call yourself a Macedonian...

That's absolutely right, why don't these slavo-macedonians realize they have nothing to do with Macedonia other than the fact that in the 4th century BC modern day Prilep, Bitola and Ohrid were incorporated into the Macedonian kingdom along with northern Greek Macedonia

Then under Philip 11 and Alexander the Great all of Paionia which included modern day Veles and Strumica was annexed to the Macedonian kingdom (the paionians being a thracian tribe like many of the tribes that occupied what is today northern greek macedonia where the inhabitants consider themsevles greek macedonians and not paionians)

By the time the Romans came to conquer Macedonia, inhabitants that occupied about 75% of the modern republic of macedonia fought against the Romans for the continued existence of Macedonia during the three Macedonian Wars

Once the Romans conquered Macedonia they divided the former empire and included all of the republic of macedonia into Macedonia Salutaris while most of greek macedonia was formed into Macedonia Prima

Around 300 AD the populations of the entire region of Macedonia were depleted by invading gothic and hun tribes, Then before and during the Medieval Byzantine rule of Macedonia, slavs began settling all over the former empire (including in and around what is today the Greek province of Macedonia)

The region of Macedonia then became a battle ground between the Byzantines, the Bulgarians and the Serbs -none of them able to hang on permanently-

In the 14th century all of the republic of macedonia and greek macedonia were conquered by the Ottomans and once again these lands were referred to as simply Macedonia where all the people considered themselves Macedonians along with an adjective that represented an ethnic identity (i.e Greek-Macedonian or Slavic-Macedonian)

After the creation of the Bulgarian, Serbian and Greek nation-states, the medieval battle between the byzantines, serbs and bulgars over macedonia continued once again as they scrambled to claim Macedonia from the weakened Turkish empire, and the battle seems to still be continuing to this day while the people in the republic of macedonia, like the people of greek macedonia, without a doubt are mixed between ancient macedonian and paionian tribes, huns, goths and slavs, still cling to idea of Macedonia rather than one of the nation states that has been trying to conquer it for hundreds of years.
