To all of you who were speculating, it looks like 307 officers have returned. People (serbs) of Kosovo are tired of the politics of Belegrade who's only intention is wining votes. Right now there's no voting so they told these officers we don't care about you. I'm glad they have returned and I hope all local serbs distance themselves from old politics and join Kosovo institutions in order to protect their own rights and freedoms.

There NO talks, EULEX and UNMIK said "huh?" when Albanian media asked them. This is like when Jeremic stood and said he met Biden's adviser...when he didn't!

"Jim - I can see the logic of your point, but what about the monasteries and Serbian enclaves in the rest of Kosovo? How can they be abandoned? "

The Serbian cultural patrimony remains under Serb control in the constitution, and if the Serbs bother to vote in the local elections they can have Serb governments in towns where they are a majority. There is reconstruction money (from the donors' conference) budgeted for these governments to spend as they wish. Tadic is exaggerating when he says one side got everything and the other side got nothing.

“We’re holding intensive talks with the EULEX mission and we’re very close to a solution, as it’s absolutely unthinkable for Serbs in the north of Kosovo to be in the KPS, and the Serbs south of the Ibar to leave the KPS,” Bogdanović said.

Dude, the deadline is over! What "intensive talks" and with who?

You are right, up north they wear Kosova Police uniform and don't tell me they answer to UNMIK Police Commissioner either, becasue there is none in Kosova anymore.

Jim - I can see the logic of your point, but what about the monasteries and Serbian enclaves in the rest of Kosovo? How can they be abandoned?

Kosovo is still legally part of Serbia as defined under international law, therefore how can these people be effectively removed from their own country? And why should they be?

The only way to move forward is for the US (and subsequently the EU) to stop being so blinkered and biased about the issue and help to promote a proper solution between the two parties at the negotiating table. They have the leverage with the Kosovo Albanian provincial govt to influence this.

Perhaps the 'deal' should be that they can keep their huge lump of a base running in the province.

It is becoming ever clearer that partition is the final goal and the logical outcome. This surely represents the most logical face saving way out of this mess. Northern Kosovo remains with Serbia in return for the rest of Kosovo being accepted as independent and thus being able to join the UN and other international organisations as a sovereign state.

As for arguments that in order for this to happen a deal with have to be done on Presevo, this is not going to happen. Just as the Serbs living South of the Ibar will have to integrate into the Kosovo state, the Albanians living in Presevo will have to accept their status in the Republic of Serbia. The international community will want to make sure this happens in order to maintain the fig-leaf of multiculturalism in both countries and provide an incentive for both states to treat their respective national minorities well.

Let's hope a deal can be done sooner rather than later and then everyone can get on with what really matters - economic development, political reform and EU accession.
