I was in a well known coffee chain next to Beogradjanka today. The town was pretty deserted so I decided to venture upstairs. Usually its a complete no, no, as its one of the smokiest rooms in Belgrade. For a non smoker it really is disgusting.

We asked for a non smoking table, there is one but only for use of those ordering something to eat.

In the west the argument is to do with personal freedom, without the state always poking its nose in. In Serbia its to do with a complete lack of awareness of other people, or the tyranny of the majority.

That way I actually suppot the rights of smokers in the west (to a degree) and am for draconian measures (to begin with) for Serbia.

I went to quite a few places in Belgrade today, restaurants and kids play areas. Looks like most people continued to smoke in front of the kids just like any other day. It's a shame really.

"Cigarettes remain the only legal product that kills its consumers."

Apart from motor cars, sugar, whisky, peanuts, dairy produce of all sorts...
