condemn the human rights abuse of lgbt activists in moscow this past weekend.
(roberto, 18 May 2009 06:29)

That thing was not in Serbia. Technically, it is not a good idea. Otherwise they also should condemn the killing of 15 year old gay(?) boy in California. Just because what is good for goose....

---------------

it was a disgusting intl spectacle
(roberto, 18 May 2009 06:29)

Nope, it was a heavy-handed domestic spectacle. The police of Moscow did act within Moscow administrative borders and no guests from other countries were targeted willingly.

---------------

and an ugly reminder of how much progress needs to be forged.

Yes, but it is very wise to leave Russia to it's own pace. That pace could be slow. As previously stated, my empathy towards same-sex relationships is not big. I want them to be happy, but I am also happy to say away from that millieu. I do not oppose marriages, whatever they want - but it's not my problem and IMO this problem is marginal compared with many others. It's not you or me who will set the pace. Indeed, Serbs have historically the best chances to make some influence.

---------------

let the mayor of moscow and his all-too-willing henchmen know what you think of their repressive tactics.
(roberto, 18 May 2009 06:29)

Of course, we know, who the mayor of Moscow is. For Serbs at this moment there are some other "colleagues" to fight against: Mesic, Djukanovic. But wasn't it the "glorious" American politics which is to blame for that distraction? One should chose his fights wisely. "Thanks" to America, Serbs now are busy how to deal with the communist freaks like Mesic and Djukanovic and Thaci, not influencing Russia the way you would like to see.

That was counter-productive from Uncle Sam to say the least. And we are at the square one essentially again: Uncle Sam abused Serbia in order to wage a war-by-proxy against Russia. Now, Serbs are NOT in position to be the "bridge" for extended period of time. Instead, they have to deal with extensive damage done by Americans.

From point of view of "better" Russia all I can say (again): many-many thanks, America - FOR NOTHING!!! And remember that small country of Afghanistan... where I can say precisely the same.

Ultimately, do you know, who is the "father" of all undemocratic forces of Russia? Of course, Uncle Sam. Because if not the "West" being so short-sighted and greedy, Russia would be in totally different situation now. Sometimes I am thinking, the "West" does it on purpose - it has no incentive to see a strong, democratic Russia.

But don't worry... Instead of dealing with democratic and strong Russia the West is going to deal with undemocratic and even stronger China. Good luck on that and may god (if he is) bless us all in what we will face sooner or later - because we will need it.

I very much appreciate his words and hope that they are followed by action(s).

i was just thinking how ironic it would be to have a progressive spokesperson in blg on matters of homophobia, which is more than we have here (in DC). here we are still awaiting the end of that ridiculous "don't ask/ don't tell" policy...

anyway, here's a suggestion for immediate action: condemn the human rights abuse of lgbt activists in moscow this past weekend. it was a disgusting intl spectacle and an ugly reminder of how much progress needs to be forged. use that close relation with russia, and let the mayor of moscow and his all-too-willing henchmen know what you think of their repressive tactics.

thanks.
