No can do. CG wants to join NATO as it knows that everyone around them is in NATO. USA and definitely Albania will never let them get near NATO if they do. CG knows the money and security are with the West.

Russia on the other hand would need CG since they have a shore. As for a Russian base in Serbia--how will Russian troops get there? Look at the map.

Bgannon, there is always a possibility and even a good probability that you are right, but I sincerely hope that you are wrong.

I still have a feeling that Russia will spell it out to the Montenegrins and after the next election things could be very different.
So far Russia has done a lot for Serbia. Without Russia, Kosovo would probably even have a seat in the UN. That in itself is a great achievement and help from Russia. They don't have to rull their tanks through Pristina to stop Snake. There is more than one way to skin a cat, as they say. The fact that they have already rolled their tanks in somewhere else show the west that Russia is not to be toyed with and they will protect their interests. Serbia should be their great interest and if the bone heads in Belgrade accepted that we would see Russia giving even more support.
You have to be a friend to have a friend is also another saying. Let Russia have their base in Serbia just like Albanians have done so for the US and I doubt Serbia's struggle would be as long and as hard.

I doubt that there will be any more big Russian investments in Montenegro. The Splendid in Becici is near bankruptcy and is begging money from the government to bail them out.

More likely it will be some preassure on Tzar Milo "Get rich" Djukanovic and his business partner Filip "also very rich" Vujanovic, recall recognition or we will close the aluminium plant in Podgorica down for a few years...

I very much doubt it Peggy. I'm sure the Montenegrin government will just offer a few more hotels to Russian businessmen to keep them sweet.

Of course as I've stated before I don't believe in supposed friends or enemies in international relations, but if Russia were truly Serbia's friend it would insist that Montenegro rescind recognition of Kosovo. Or at least it would condemn the Montenegrin government on the issue following the meeting.

However, as Russia is busy putting its own interests first, Serbia should be advised to put her own interests first as well and not think about alleged European or Russian 'friends'.

'Among the other topics of discussion will be the Kosovo problem and the development of an agreement for European security.'

I think Dmitry will look Vujanovic straight in the face and ask him, 'How could you recognize that fake, illegal, and immoral state? Are you not ashamed?'.
Montenegro has shamed themselves and let's see if redemption is possible.
