Obama’s challenge

Obama will have to prove to the American people, especially the African Americans and other non-whites, that he is really his own boss and not some mere puppet of Clinton & Co.

No doubt, Obama is facing a difficulte jigsaw puzzle!
Or rather he has to rearange a house of cards without letting it fall appart!
Surely he has to give somethnig to the Iranians. and since Bush destroyed the only viable countebalance - Iraq, that will be difficule. But the US could not afford to stay like Atlas holding the Middle East from collapsing. New pillers of power must be created.
If alied the Sunny arabs could contain Iran by their own strength. They are willing to do this. But in order to do make them be at least not antiamerican, he must broker a peace bethween Israel and the Arabs.
This may be not as unimaginable as it may seem. Tsipi Livni failed to form a government because she did not reasure the religious MPs that she would NOT negotiate the fate of East Jerusalim. This gives us a hope that there are Isralei polititians, theoretically willing to go bach to the borders of 1967! That is if ( big if) the US gives them an absolute guarantee for their security in the old (new) borders. If Obama manages to reasure then, and at the same time convince the arabs that he had "pressured" Israel to accept their liong standing proposal, he may be viewed as a hero in the Arab world! In such a situation the Arabs will "acctpt" the inevitable break down of Iraq. How would Turkey feel about a Kurdish state? questions, questions questions.
But today is Obama's day. Let us hope he has the wisdom and the knowlege to construct a better world.
