I have worked in Kosovo many years and I ask you ben; What happens if a couple of Serbs show up in Kosovo Polje, Vushitrri, Aijvalija or Stimlje to ty and rebuild their old house ??!
(EU-Judge, 31 October 2008 12:08)

According to you there is no serb living in those places you've mentioned.

Last time I went to Kosova was just last summer and driving from Ferizaj towards Prishtina I've seen brand new houses built for serbs by Kosova's budget. Visit them for yourself and hopefuly you believe your own eyes.
I stopped by at the village of Talinovc (right side from Highway when going north) and counted 17 brand new houses that were built there in the last 2 years for serbs who decided to return. And then village of Babush not far from the village mentioned above has another 23 brand new houses built for serbs who decided to return (all of them built from Kosova's budget).

I stopped there at a store and asked 2 different Albanians what they thought about their serbian neighbours and if they had/have any problems, their response was amazing. I was surprised though what they thought about someone who killed them during 1998-99, however it was nice to hear that response. Having said that now brings me to the point where I must say that same thing should happen in Northern Mitrovica. In order to do that Kosova's gouvernment should fully control northern part of Kosova and make sure everything is building as the rest of the country. Albanians must rebuild their houses in northen Mitrovica and then both sides are even.

Looks like while you were in Kosova as a EU-Judge you've probably spent all day in office.

Goran.

Well said EU-Judge... so let's not be naive and believe to crocodile tears of Belgrade of the exlusively persecuted Serbs in Kosova- Albanians are persecuted too.

It should be easy to admit this Eu Judge, don't you think?

Oh really ben? What an odd way to persecute them for their crimes, while serbs rot in that disgrace of a legal system referred to as The Hague, where are people such as thaci, haradinaj, ceku???? or the ones responsible for the ethnic cleansing of serbs, roma, ashkali and the rest? they all seam to be sitting in cushioned leather chairs yelling "independence!"

Should be pretty easy to answer why things are this way, ain't that right ben?

Dear EU-Judge, I'm not sure you are referring to the same Kosovo (Planet Earth) but Serb individuals building enything enywere in Kosovo is hard to imagine. Historically, they much prefer free new houses built for them by the government. Even in Tito's Ex-Yougoslavia, they mostly lived in state owned (council) properties, not to mention Milosevich or UNMIK era.
I thought that judges are supposed to do some research and to hear both sides before making any judgements.

pre 15 godina

There is a movement under way to prevent anymore land grabs or insurgency in Europe. NATO is quickly moving to incorporate both Albania, Crotia and Macedonia into NATO and the EU. So when there is a provacation in Kosovo ie crossing the bridge in a mob to rebuild houses where is the building materials? Was there permits issued to build? No there was no intention to build house only to incite a riot to gather attention. I believe Serbia has drawn a line that both the EU and the UN has accepted and both Serbia and Kosovo will have to accept. Sending a group of thugs across the bridge did not solve anything but a big fight where NATO sent the people right back to South of the Ibar. People will never get it though there heads that the decision on Kosovo has been made.

It is one more proof that northern Kosova and Mitrovica particularly are ethically cleansed by Serbs and that even after 9 years K-Albanians cannot go back to their homes.

Wah, wah, wah...remind me again how much of Kosovo & Metohija is under ethnic Albanian influence. Remind me again how many Serbs are in Pristina compared to Albanians in Mitrovica (especially the southern part). It just burns the ethnic Albanians up that they aren't able to control everything and everyone in the province.

there are no "kosovars", forget that artificial term - there are only citizens of Serbia, be it of albanian or serbian ethnicity.

Right on Jovan, ever since I heard that term all I can do is laugh and tell everyone I can that there is no such thing as a "Kosovar", just like there is no such thing as a Palistinian (in reality they are the unwanted from Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Syria). They are both made up terms, I find it quite unfortunate that most of the world cannot distinguish between reality and fantasy when it comes to these two "peoples".

Clear ideaology

pre 15 godina

well guys where will I start.I'd like to say as an albanian I'm I suprised this happenned, NO!
We all know that that spot will always mean Gaza-Palestine to me.
But I would like to say one thing, things were never equal between the two comunities, and will always be like this no matter what or who says.
I must say u enjoy having this because I know I can walk in my town and not worry if he or she is a Serbian cause I know they all left and sold their properties, would one ask how I feel, absoulutly love it that the 'other' is not around as I know I've never been more humilated in my life when your ' hero' milisevic was in power.
I'm up for dividing all in nationality cause let's not pretend we will never live in harmony together I don't I want to and I know another 2milion or so that think the same.
So Serbs of the world that comment here one advise for you don't jump too fast and mixing emotions with politics and talk about killings, uck,ect cause I know, you know and the whole world knows who killed who from the early 90's with the "velika serbija" ideaollogy.
Hope b92 publishes this as I'm only being honest to what I think, people on both side might not agree but I hate pretending like most here seem to do.
EU judge had a point, and honesty in his small comment.

What goes around comes around! Not quite. We have a situation where 7 per cent of the population wants to rule 92 per cent of the population. This is absurd and will not happen. The Serbs in Kosovo according to the Constitution of Kosovo have got more protected rights than any minority in the world can dream of,yet the Serbs in Kosovo and the Serbs in general can not adjust to or tolerate an Albanian led government, and as a result of that the Serbs create all sorts of problems that we can live without.Get used to reality, and be more constuctive for your own good. Kosovo is a home country for the ones that respect Kosovo's laws and consider it home. That is the only way forward for everybody, the Serbs especially. It is highly comical the style in wich some of you comment, like (the time will come) or( we will be ready)or(Albanian black hole)or(bankrupt master aka USA)or(EU nazis)yet all this remarks for anybody with a bit of good sense would be highly hipocritical.

If the albanians can shoot and in other ways attack serbs visiting cemeteries and their houses one shouldn't expect serbs to treat the albanians differently. Interesting to read how albanians critiseze attacks on albanians but not on the serbs population. Remember that over 150.000 serbs fled and even under heavy NATO presence they can't return to their homes.

Jovan, I think the status issues is done and sealed, Malaysia recognized today I believe and in a few years Kosovo will have over 100 recognisions. So get real on that. In my opinion the only issue solution will be an exchange of population between Kosovo and Serbia. Serbs from Mitrovica move out of Kosovo into Serbia, Albanians from Presevo move out of Serbia into Kosovo. Same deal as it was reached by Greeks and Turks in the 1920s. For this I agree, both sides should sit at the negotiation table and discuss. Kosovo independence it's a done thing.

Much blame needs to fall on the Albanian leadership in Pristina for encouraging such motives with recent statements of taking back the north, with force if necessary. Guess these 'peaceful builders' had all the proper permits as we all know what sticklers K-albanian's are for paperwork - didn't they just bulldoze a newly built gorani school earlier this month for just that reason?

Must have had building 'permits', otherwise feel sure pro K-albanian camp would have mentioned discrepency as was case with the school earlier.

One must inflexibly enforce the 'letter of the law' - especially when it comes to those pesky minorities.

Besides, minorities in Kosovo have 'strongest protections for their human rights' guaranteed in shiny new constitution. That should be enough for them.

What actually happens to them.. well let's not talk about that.

'ben' said:

Here's a little quote for you from HRW's report on the 2004 K-albanian pogrom against Kosovo's minorities (the link shown above):

> Human Rights Watch research found that ethnic Albanian crowds acted with ferocious efficiency to rid many areas in Kosovo of all remaining vestiges of a Serb presence, and also targeted other minority communities, including Roma and Ashkali. In many of the villages affected by the violence, in attacks both spontaneous and organized, every single Serb, Roma or Ashkali home was destroyed.

Note that this happened 5 years after the end of the civil war in the late nineties - under the noses of thousands of UNMIK & KFOR personnel who were supposed to be keeping the peace & protecting the vulnerable minorities from attack by K-albanians.

Didn't make any difference did it. And guess where many of those thousands who were forced to flee went? To the same area under discussion today. Along with many thousands more who were 'cleansed' during the late nineties.

Small wonder then if those same dispossessed individuals seek to block the return of those K-albanians who were forced to flee from the north during the war of 98-99.

And odd that the southern part of Kosovska Mitrovica controlled by K-albanians is almost 100% ethnically albanian while the northern part controlled by serbs still has a significant ethnic albanian percentage.

And curious that there are so many roma in the northern part & virtually none at all in the south. Just how may K-albanians did they persecute? Any at all?

Kind off makes nonsense of your statement above about just who has recently been busy 'ethnically cleansing' who doesn't it 'ben'.

But then again, there's nothing unusual about that is there.

Dear EU-Judge, I'm not sure you are referring to the same Kosovo (Planet Earth) but Serb individuals building enything enywere in Kosovo is hard to imagine.

It is time to partition the region into enclaves and gettos, to have all tribes separated by barbwire and troops for say 30-40 years then when the time comes that this generation has died off, perhaps then our children or grandchildren can live in the Eden that is Kosovo/a

Clearly the Albanians have the RIGHT to rebuild their homes and return.

However, I find the claim they went over in a group like that to do so highly dubious. It certainly sounds to me on the surface that they were merely looking for trouble. Who goes to rebuild their homes in a mob like that? Did they bring building supplies and trucks and everything to build a house?

The reality is there are Albanians living in the Serbian section of town, but there are no Serbs living in the Albanian part.

To be honest, I’m a bit disgusted by my fellow Serbs’ reactions, they are reacting in exactly the manner in which these provocateurs wanted. Use your head!!!

'Pavaresi' said:

Remind me again, who was it that burned over 500 homes belonging to serbs & other minorities just some 4 years ago? K-albanian mobs all over the province, not so? Curious - thought war was well & truly over by 2004? Wonder how many of those homes have been rebuilt?

Here's a little 'refresher' for you: http://www.hrw.org/english/docs/2004/07/27/serbia9136.htm

'ben' said:
> It is one more proof that northern Kosova and Mitrovica particularly are ethically cleansed by Serbs and that even after 9 years K-Albanians cannot go back to their homes.

Brian

It is very likely that these Albanians are probably KLA members who would use their houses to launch raids against the Serbs and become the headquarters for terrorism against Serbs in Mitrovica. Serbs are only safe in Kosovo if no Albanians are around and that is just a fact.

If the albanians can shoot and in other ways attack serbs visiting cemeteries and their houses one shouldn't expect serbs to treat the albanians differently.
