Another ethnic Albanian party, DPA, said in a statement that the trials could cause "an increase in tensions".

"This is no time to open up old wounds, especially as we begin to build trust between ethnic communities based on the common goal: Macedonia's membership in the EU and NATO," former DPA lawmaker Imer Selmani commented.

Well, dear DPA folks...

It's one thing to combat security forces, and something else entirely to torture civilians.

I agree with the Macedonian court decision. Amnesty for combatants does not apply to those that deliberately commit crimes against civilians.

And by the way, trust between communities is build through cooperation and by providing impartial justice, not by sweeping things under the rug.

Michael John, smart but not necessarily true. Members of the government are not always MP's. So what is a 'lawmaker'?

'People of Rep. of Macedonia call them "lawmaker". '

Moisi Thats odd, I thought they spoke Macedonian in Macedonia!

Thanks for the elementary politics lesson by the way. I'm quite aware of the theory, however inaccurate it is in practice.

In practice the government makes the laws and MP's vote yes or no or to amend. They don't thus make laws, they ratify them. That is a fact, so lets not waste time arguing.

I'm afraid that our political system is very similar so you are fooling nobody when you pretend political cannon fodder is just a Serbian problem...

so, if I got that right, these animals, who kidnapped and tortured four construction workers, are being called "albanian lawmakers"?

WHO calls them lawmakers, actually?

People of Rep. of Macedonia call them "lawmaker". I think they made a mistake and didn't ask you first to elect them or not.

And as far as you call them "animals", in Serbia you guys had a monster that killed thousands of people and you used to call him "president Milosevic".

But its false in the Serbian and British context. MP's do not usually make laws, they vote (or amend) on them. If anybody truly makes laws its the government.

Listen bganon, Government is executive branch, they execut the law; Parlament is legislative branch thay make the law. Government can make draft-laws and send to Parlament, that doesn't mean that they make the laws.

Certainly in the Serbian context MP's are cannon fodder and not 'lawmakers' in any sense...

In this point I agree with you because Serbia was for a long time under leaders like Milosevic. That doesn't mean that Serbia should be a role model for Macedonia.

Is this the case where the Albanian kidnappers carved big letters on the backs of the victims with knives? I remember there were pictures of the peoples' backs and wounds.

Speaking of 'lawmakers' I can't stand the term. As far as I can see its only used in US English and is used as a substitute for MPs.
