Well, given the extraordinary actions&gestures EU may feel required in order to appease Belgrade for losing Kosovo, Serbia entering EU around 2012 doesn't look so "incredible idea", at least this is my opinion.

From the perspective of EU foreign policy in its own backyard (Balkans), this may sound logic:
1. Better have them (Serbia, Kosovo, etc.) inside than outside.
2. Having them inside EU will give incentives to pro-European, reformist political parties.
3. Being part of EU will force the pro-US countries in the region to temper their warm feelings towards Washington (this may work for Kosovo, Macedonia, although for Romania did not, at least not sufficiently, and our political leaders, especially the President, are still quite pro-American. But there are recent signs that things are changing - e.g., in the US visa issue, Romania will stay together with EU, and will not negotiate a separate agreement).

However, based on what I've seen in Serbia, during my recent trips in the country, I dare to say that EU money will help accomplish great things there, especially because Serbs have managed to preserve better their business-like attitude during Communism, compared with my countrymen, Romanians.

ok Mircea, I think the entire b92 community got that idea: no enlargement without Lisbon :)

Eagle, though I think Serbia's place is in the EU, I do not think is now or never, but more like better late than sorry.

Eagle,

The words "now or newer" are usually said during the deal by the trickster to make a pressure. Like:

"buy this car /worth $16000/ for $19999 - now or never". Serbs probably know, how to deal with used car dealers.

Mircea, how many times are you going to post the same comment? And Eagle, Albanian Eagle I presume, because there are so many eagles in the Balkans, Serbia, in the words of our new PM, "Will Never Recognize a Fake State On Our Sovereign Soil." Thank you for backing the EU, though, which Romania is a part of.

Serbia in EU in 2012? That is a joke!! Serbia will not join the EU unless the Lisbon Treaty comes into force. Cvetkovic and Delic should stop dreaming.
