The two short links explain quite a bit.

"The project undermines the hopes for the prospective U.S.- and EU-backed Nabucco pipeline designed to ease Europe's reliance on Russia."

"As regards the deal between Russia and Serbia, we can blame the EU for some of this," said Borut Grgic, an energy expert and director of the Institute for Strategic Studies in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
"There is a big political dimension to this," he added.
"In all its negotiations with Serbia when dealing with the future status of Kosovo, the EU never brought up with Serbia the issue of energy security and how Serbia could play an important role for Europe."

Gazprom, Russia's state-owned monopoly, has taken advantage of the disarray inside the EU by forging ahead with its own contracts with Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary and now Serbia, as it consolidates its presence in southeastern Europe.

Serbia should sell options on all strategic assets in Kosovo to Russian companies in return for Russian help in building nuclear power plants in Serbia in order for Serbia to become self sufficient in the energy sector..Do you think any Western company is going to invest in Kosovo if it faces the threat of a Russian competitor suing in court? In other words what Western company would be willing to give up any hope of doing business in the Russian Federation by antagonizing the Russian option owners of Kosovo assets? If the Serbs hire me as their consultant I guarantee results!

Well, you might be lucky and get hired by the Serbs Luciano, but the Russians don't strike me as being that stupid.
The Russians are in(with) Serbia to get whatever they can while they can before the Serbs wake up and realise that they're living in disilllusioned world.Makes you wander what's the rush at signing all this mega deals.

This is just one of the assimetric back srtikes Russia and Serbia can deliver. Killing NABUCCO is a sweet revenge in the favour of the two countriaes.

I believe the cooperation will be forced after the Presidentials in Russia and Parliamentals in Serbia.

Right now Russia may have some doubts concerning Tadic' will to go far. But at least together we must freeze the number of the states which give up the American pressure . By now we have some 93% of the world on our side and the Russian diplomacy has enough influence to keep the score.

Some countries around must start getting very nervous...
It is already an open secret that the next 'war' will be the one for the energy control and in that field the russians have no competition and a strong leverage in their hands...

I would suggest that all EU members pay a premium price for gas because they apparently have plenty of money to burn.

What, are they building a pipeline through Serbia? But, the pro western parties had been telling the people the project was not certain. Were they lying to protect western interests?
