What is the real reason for Europe to insist so much to 'give' independence to Kosovo. Are they that stupid to be ready to use the tax payers money and poor 100ths of million of euros to maintain the survival of a so called 'new country' or is it cold calculation to be able to send back to 'their new coutry' the hundreds of thousands living in europe from all sort of traffics.
For the record, around 50% of the drug traffic and prostution in the big cities in switzerland is controlled by...guess who!
How will now European politicians explain to florishing regions, but not yet coutries..., like Basque, Corse, Ireland, Scottland, North Cyprus, that they have no right to become independant, indeed they cannot be compared with Kosovo... and that's the all subtility!!
Mr Jeremic speach was simply outstanding but unfortunatly for him and Serbia I believe that the assembly is just blind and will follow orders, as usual....

When Ramiz Alia, just before the fall of communism, was asked about the Kosovo problem, his reply was that one day, when all the Balkan countries join the EU, that problem will cease to exist.
It is people like bmrussila that makes the Serbian rule unbearable to the Albanians in Kosovo.
It is her attitude and the Serb’s majority towards the Albanians that pushes the west firmly towards independence for Kosovo.
It wasn’t Thaci and the KLA who liberated Kosovo. They just brought this kind of attitude to the west’s full attention.
It is these people (unfortunely for Serbia, the majority of its population) that brought Serbia in to the crossroads. And it’s not about Kosovo anymore. It’s about Serbia itself now.

bmrusila,

Don't be affraied. Don't listen to scary propoganda. You will see that "on the ground" it is different, not like in the media.
You could send us your daily observations. Who knows maybe you would change your opinions drastically.

Slav -where did you get that statistic from?

I doubt it unemployment is any worse currently in Kosova than it is in Serbia.

I predict that very soon we'll see huge investments going to Kosova and nothing (well almost nothing) to Serbia.

Then I'll ask you to employ your statistician skills.

Adrian Gashi

pre 16 godina

As for Serbia never recognizing Kosova, that's a good thing because Kosova will never recognize Serbia just the same. Wait and see how Prishtina will move in 6 months time to curb the illegal payments that Serbia sends in Kosova, and either block them entirely or tax them at 60% as financial gifts. In that case Belgrade can go and complain to Moscow and Nikosia and see if we care.

Joe says..."Well he would not go very far in American politics."

How foolish you and other posters appear with your attempts to personally discredit Mr. Jeremic.

Mr. Jeremic,a gentleman and scholar,is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, and the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

It is a small man or woman who would attempt to discredit Mr. Jeremic because they do not agree with his opinions.

Jeremic is the best official Serbia can offer to the world and at the UN he still came wanting. He delivered a defiant, emotional and nationalistic speech and which addressing the SC, in truth he was speaking to his countrymen in Serbia. He reminded the world why they have decided to let Kosovo go alone, i.e. Milosevic may be gone but the nationalistic ground wells into which he tapped into to bring himself to power and destroy Yugoslavia are still well stoked and on occasions overflowing.

It does not matter whether Serbia recognises KosovA or not. Any grandstanding rhetoric from Belgrade is useless and irrelevant.

Get real,

I don’t think that Serbia failed anywhere and anyhow. The problems that occurred within Serbia are just a fact that we were alone, but literally alone in this world and basically fought against the entire world for justice. I dare to say 8 years after Milosevic (who I used to curse every day for morning, afternoon evening) that actually he was not that much to blame after all which is proved by the events that took place later on and after the continued mistreatment and filthy policy by IC towards Serbia. The time has proved everything and will still prove. In the end when the one summarise the last one and half decade I say Serbia did not fail anywhere, did not lose much and given the facts on the ground Serbia is on its way just to win even more. Just watch and you will see.

Olf,

Of course I am very interested in situation in Kosovo, firstly because it’s part of my country and secondly I am very sentimentally attached to Kosovo and Metohija. I do not deny that I would like to come back and live to Kosovo, but I really do not trust Albanian governing and their implementation of justice. Perhaps if I ever decide to come back (which I never excluded) it will be North of Kosovo. I admit that I am coward and could not stand the life behind barbed wires and limitation of moving around. I like to feel free while walking, to feel free while communicating in my language and certainly would not like to be escorted by armored vehicles. But who knows, maybe the things get changed in few years.

Belokapac,

I am sure Belgrade will never recognise Kosovo as independent state. Croatia had totally different status within ex YU, it was one of the ex YU republics. You see the difference between Republic and province of sovereign country.

I consider the speech of Mr Jeremic to be an eloquent plea for respect of international law.

Those who rule in the major Western states currently intent on recognising the illegal UDI by Kosovo politicians would do well to reflect carefully on its contents.

Whether they will or not remains to be seen but at least the legitimate concerns of Serbia are now written into the record of UN proceedings and those who ignore them and recognise the "entity" will be seen as contributing and condoning a flagrant breach of international law.

Dear Serbian friends,

Just to answer you with the followings:
1. Serbia is in no position to renegotiate or do anything in regard with Kosova.
2. Serbia has only two options left, EU or isolation and Kosova is not in the list of choices that Serbia can make
3. Kosova was never legally part of Serbia, it was in fact part of Yugoslavia with direct presentation in the federal government and with veto power until Millosheviq took control and sent all Yugoslavia to war.
4. The right for self determination for the people of Kosova, the third largest population of former Yugoslavia can no longer be denied.

5. Kosova's independence is a compromise solution and it actually helps in the long run Serbia. It particularly helps the Serbian minority in Kosova who are manipulated by their own government in Belgrade.

6. Serbia is in no position to do anything regarding Kosova

7. Vive la liberte, as French used to say once.

Thank you.

As you will see, the current Belgrade government is democratic and liberal in outlook.

(Niall O'Doherty, 15 February 2008 13:12)

1.
You refer to the new Serbia Government as democratic.
We will see that with time.
If they are as democratic as you put them we are more than happy to have them as good neighbours and conduct good neighbourly contacts. We definitely want that because we want that because of the Kosovo Serbs.
2.
The fact that the existing “democratic” government never apologised to the Albanians for what their predecessors did, should tell you something. Apologise, distance yourself from the previous politics and then we might start believing on that.
3.
I agree that Jeremic, and Tadic (though their nationalism does resurface in occasions) in a surface seem to be far apart from Milosevic. But please do not try to convince us that there are differences between Kostunica and Milosevic.
4.
Niall,
Mr Jeremic is not our foreign Minister.
We are not creating another Albania. We are creating a state called Kosovo where all the ethnic groups will have the same rights.
Kosovo will not belong only to Albanians it will belong to all Kosovars (otherwise we would have to call it “The Republic of North Albania” wouldn’t we). You know Niall there is “North” and “South” Korea. There will not be “North Albania” and “South Albania”. There will be “Kosovo” and “Albania”.
5.
I believe that you are a bit late to preach about accepting Serbia as our state.
A state should cater for all of its citizens. I don’t believe that Serbia has done a good job at that, do you?
You see Niall, if you treat your adopted child as and unwanted child, that child will grow up leave. That child will not want to deal with you.

Just think about this.

I wonder how cowardly was what Serbian army, Serbian paramilitary, Serbian warmongering thugs, majority of the Serbian people, with Serbian government's support did to (in chronological order ) the Croats, Bosnians, Kosovans etc.

Churkin said that the supporters of independence of Kosovo – the United States and EU members – "remained in the political minority at the UN Security Council."

The truth comes out. The folly that we have been told 'the whole world' is behind the immoral and illegal greater albania plan is now proven to be nothing more than lies and propoganda.

Tonyt, why dont you and the rest of 'Team Kosova' get it into your heads that the current Serbia or its government have absolutley nothing to do with what happened in the wars in ex Yugo. Please stop using your politically and morally defunct broken record in dehumanizing the Serbian people and belittling their valid argumements. Your blame game or your arguments simply do not stack up. Equating Jeremic, Tadic and Kostunica to Milosevic, Tito, Mladic, Karadzic, global warning, the Antichrist etc, etc. is frankly ridiculous.

What your Foreign Minister is doing is, is that he is pleading the case for the Republic of Serbia and using all legal means necessary aimed at preventing the dismemberment and destruction of your country.

Gezim, Mr Jeremic, your Foreign Minister offered you substantial authority to you, fellow Serbian citizens. I will explain this to you. The right of self determination applies to nations. 'Kosova' is not a nation. You already have your own nation, its called Albania. What you are is simple, you are an ethnic minority (Albanian extraction) that make up only 15% of the population of a larger polity called the Republic of Serbia, that state that you belong to and one that you live in. If you have any political matutiry I would suggest to you that in the interest of national, regional and international stability, you lot start accepting the state you live in - the Republic of Serbia and work with it.

Here we go with Albanian same stories and speeches. You repeat yourselves like broken record. Serbia did that to us, Serbia did this to us, ah, boring ..really. Your arguments for grabbing the land are quite empty. 90% of the events that took place in the past are just fabricated. Your fabricated “facts” do not hold the water. Sooner or later the truth will come to the surface, and believe it or not it will come right from the Americans when they get fed up with you.

However, if I was an Albanian I would think after Jeremic’s speech. He repeated many times “never” and whether you like it or not independence means nothing if Belgrade do not agree on it. Independence will not mean much without UN seat and even your fellow Albin Kurti seems to be much more aware of this fact than Thachi will ever be. But why would Thachi have to know any of these, all he knows is how to run his criminal business. Thachi is the man that does not care much about the law. I had good laugh yesterday when he promised fight against corruption in KEK, but he forgot to arrest himself at first for every possible criminal activities that he was and still is involved in. Albanians cannot even produce sufficient electricity and that had never happened while Serbs were taking care about electricity production. You Albanians simply fail in every field. That is Kosovo nowadays.

Why the International law was not respected by Serbian Government and Serbian People and what did Russia do to prevent the massacre of Srebrenica, one of the largest massacres after second world war?

Serbian friends,

I wonder, if Serbia and Russia like and respect so much international law, how come that Serbian Forces maltreated every second Kosovar Albanian before 1999, killed and massacred and expelled more than a million Kosovar Albanians, more than 50% of the population out of Kosova in 1999 only?

Why the International law was not respected by Serbian Government and Serbian People and what did Russia do to prevent the massacre of Srebrenica, one of the largest massacres after second world war?

UN charter talks also for the right os self-determination. Why Mr. Jeremic does not mention that as part of the international law, which simply can not be denied to people of Kosova in a free Europe.

Thank you.

Tonyt, why dont you and the rest of 'Team Kosova' get it into your heads that the current Serbia or its government have absolutley nothing to do with what happened in the wars in ex Yugo. As you will see, the current Belgrade government is democratic and liberal in outlook. Please stop using your politically and morally defunct broken record in dehumanizing the Serbian people and belittling their valid argumements. I mean blaming Serbia for all what happend is so like continually blaming the German government for the crimes committed by the Nazis and First & Second Reichs.

According to your posting Irish Republic is a Illegal state as it was created form land grab and the violence in N.Ireland is legitimate.

You have also tried to explain to Gezim the right of Self-Determination but with a little mistake. Mate tell me, are you born with the right for Self-Determination or is it that it is given to you because you are a heavenly people or maybe because you fight for it.
Than you go on with the suggestion to accept Serbia as a state. You must be joking mate, those time are over, there is no turning back.
Tom Let me suggest you focus more into Irish problem since you have plenty of your own.

Prevent this cowardly act!!!

Jeremić seams to think that only because he and his cronies can't send an army to try and prevent Kosova's declaration of independence (which is endorsed by US, EU majority plus at least 100 countries around the world), he calls it "cowardly".

I wonder how cowardly was what Serbian army, Serbian paramilitary, Serbian warmongering thugs, majority of the Serbian people, with Serbian government's support did to (in chronological order ) the Croats, Bosnians, Kosovans etc.

Mospyt

"It turned out that their policy has no support whatsoever at the UN Security Council," Churkin told Russian reporters.
The truth comes out. The folly that we have been told 'the whole world' is behind the immoral and illegal greater albania plan is now proven to be nothing more than lies and propoganda.
