With all due respect, the more accurate statement would be : A PART of Serbia could end 2008 as EU candidate. Just for the records.

It would be helpful if the Ambassador had been asked questions on how open the Slovenian market is to the incursion of Serbian investments; say in the opening of Serbian supermarkets in the centre of Ljubljana or Serbian purchases of Slovenian companies.

Given Serbia's current interest in expansion and the acknowledged economic potential to be the dominant player in the territories of former Yugoslavia and beyond, it would be a wise move for Slovenia to encourage strategic partnerships with, and buy-outs by Serbian firms.

my dear albanian friends!

do you see this?

it really looks like those euro-atlantic- bureaucrats together with their US-american "friends" are quite frustrated and even to a certain extent desperate!

now they are trying to buy serbian compliance with a carrot that doesn´t attract...

let´s call to mind the striking passages in UNSC 1244 from june 10th, 1999:

"Reaffirming the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and
territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the other States
of the region, as set out in the Helsinki Final Act and annex 2,
Reaffirming the call in previous resolutions for substantial autonomy and
meaningful self-administration for Kosovo"...

what means, the european union is bound to follow international law, what is UNSC 1244 in this case!

but the common misconception within this assumption to "buy" serbian compliance is...

there are things that can´t be bought! in a region where several empires lost their status of a world-power... even today, some western officials still do not know who and what they are dealing with!
one thing we can already be sure of: they will learn it, the one or the other way.

let´s see what future brings!
