well, James, the tragedy is that the Albanians are forced to decieve where they can, in order to create some kind of justification for their demands.

to inform you, this " albanian prince " Balsa was a serbian nobleman, who fought against Albanians, so how for gods sake, can you repeat this nonsense here, when it can be checked everywhere on the net, in serious history-books etc.

http://www.rodoslovlje.com/medieval_serbia/ser/vlastela-balsici.htm

or ...are you an Albanian, and that is what they tought you in school?

one thing seems to be clear:

presenting serbian knights as Albanian "princes", is absolutely laughable, and only shows the lack of justification for their goals.

James, your post is neither amusing nor intelligent. You want to see Albanians burning Serbian Churches, click on link below. These people, if one wants to call them that, actually vidoetaped themselves burning a church, worst of all several hundred other Albanians watched and cheered. Wonder where NATO was when all this was going on, wonder if this church would have been touched if a real police force was there. Check out the video, and if you are still feeling smug then shame on you! http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=serbian+church&search=Search

Russia will veto, this as is, we are not in 1999 with a weak Russia on its knees. One supposes that there may be a FINAL resolution which will support 1244 with some self goverment provision FOR Kosovo that suit Russia, Serbia , US and EU. Just like all the Iranian resolutions, face saving for all parties, but business as usual.

lowe, it doesn´t make any sense to explain something 25 times, on and on, ...since some here do not want to see the reality.

they are caught in their world of wishful thinking, and there´s only one thing that would help them waking up.
when the US let them down. sooner or later, that is very likely going to happen.
but, no doubts, Albanians are still whishing...and the US still haven´t delivered!

You assumed that 1999 and 2007 are the same. They are not. In fact, the balance of power has changed. US was not bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan in 1999 .... why else do you think the US dared not actually invade Iran up to now even though they shouted a lot at that country? ..... 1999's US was an economic powerhouse, Russia was in financial straits ..... today the Russians are on the economic upswing thanks to rising oil and mineral prices .... there is also an economic joke going around that communist China with the world's largest reserves is sponsoring "democratic" US which has the world's largest trade deficit .... oh, I forgot to mention earlier that China has very compelling reason to veto too (ie. Taiwan and tibet).

Victor. Scorpions are small fries compared to Ustashe. Do you know who gave Holy Communion to Ustashe? He's buried in St. Marko Cathedral in Zagreb and was proclaimed a "Saint" by the Pope. So, please, enough of calling a small black pot a kettle. What would you call "Cardinal" Stepinac and what would you call the "church" he represents.

The Albanian commentators are either misreading the news or just blind to the facts. Russia continues to stand up for Serbia, daily now. So Victor, Russia does not tire of fighting for a cause it believes in. You might wish that, but it isn't happening. And Arti, where will Kosovo be when the US and EU do not recognize your independence declaration? In a whole, since they are the two entities floating your debt. The US already said that they won't recognize Kosovo unilaterally and the EU won't take over from the UN without a resolution. And your comment that Serbs and Albanians cannot live together is exactly why we can't trust the Albanians with a Serb minority. We saw what you did after the Serb Army left in '99 and what you did during the riots in '04. Your word is only as good as the actions behind it and right now, that doesn't amount to much.

Instead of insulting the Serbs over and over, you should really try to be constructive and work toward a solution. Only with the blessing of the Serbian government will Russia accept an agreement that gives Kosovo any independence. You should really consider partitioning the north and giving it to Serbia. Why do you want a Serbian minority when you admit you can't live with them? Sounds to me like you look forward to the day the international troops leave Kosovo so you can begin persecuting them.

What do some posters mean when they say, "Albanians will proclaim unilateral independence?" Albanians already are independent. They have their own nation, it's called Albania. Don't you people mean Kosovars will proclaim independence? How can you have 2 Albanias? By the way, how many more little Albanias do you guys want? How about one in Brooklyn or Queens, New York. That way you can travel abroad and still be in your own country.

It was your people that started the insurrection and forced the hand of the Serb military. You guys are not so innocent. I had been in the region in the 80's and saw first hand all the stuff that Albanian separtists were pulling. You just happen to luck out that our President got busted with his St. Peter being baptized by an intern. He needed a bad guy and the Serbs fit the bill especially after what happened in Srebrenica. Times have changed and now everyone sees your extremism.

Reading some of the comments here one cannot but get amused how some twist (as they are twisted upstairs) the facts and rules as they deem right for themselves. After reading about burned churches and monasteries I did a little search on google and woila Decanis is still standing, Patriarch is still standing, Gracanica is still standing and they are not burned and certainly they are not destroyed.

Then I tough wait a minute, Albanians could have destroyed these places so many times since their creation (you know after a small search in google I found out that after death of King Dusan a certain prince Balsa, who was Albanian, ruled this land, and then came prince Dukagini, and then after him came the Ottomans but for some reason for about 400 or 500 years Albanians did not think of destroying these monuments, very strange since I read so many bad things about Albanians from some posters here), but then I remembered that in the middle of Pristina (right in the middle of the University campus) Serbs, when they were controlling Kosovo, had started to build a church and then I realized that Albanians might be destroying these type of monuments, the ones created for one purpose only and that is political and discriminatory purpose towards them. These are illegal objects and people should differentiate between these objects and the ones that existed for 400-500 years, furthermore it is expected of Serbs to know the difference.

These old monuments are still standing so stop making fools of yourself, I know the truth, my friends know it and the whole world knows it, that is why your lies are not producing the desired effect and no matter how much you scream that Albanians are bad, church and monastery destroyers nobody is going to listen to you about this, because the above mentioned old monuments are still standing. And yes there is a present danger to these old monuments but that is mainly because of the racist policies of the Serb Church and Serb government that have chosen to use these monuments for its political goals. And if you, your church and your country keep up with this racist, derogatory rhetoric and policy towards Albanians nobody will be surprised even if these old monuments get leveled with ground.

Now back to international law. Where was this law during early 90's? As I recollect this law was written before 90's, or wasn't it? When everyone in the international community was requesting from Serbia to respect the law, Serbia chose not to do so, actually Milosevic was put in power several times with the vote of its citizens, which meant its people supported its policies but now call on international law? Oh, and just to remind you that your beloved Mr. Putin, who was visiting Austria, said that international law can be changed in order to (or provided that it) satisfy both sides. I am not sure who he meant by both sides, but we'll have to see if he meant US and Russia, or Serbia and Kosovo (I know these last two wont get satisfied, so that leaves the first two!!!).

So, the international law was already broken in Kosovo case, breaking it another time it wont do anybody anymore harm that it has already done. As a matter of fact not breaking it will create more harm (since one side will raise its arms for freedom again).

Arti,

What will Serbia and Russia do? Nothing spectacular actually in my opinion, except that legally 1244 will still stand. This means having North Kosovo declaring itself part of Serbia (ie. de facto partition). This means having Kosovo remaining outside the UN -- oh, I know many K-Albanians say they don't care as long as the West recognizes them ..... but don't forget that Daniel Fried had already ruled out unilateral recognition by the US .... and without UN recognition, don't expect foreign investors (including US investors) to go rushing in to Kosovo .... your economic problems will remain ..... So where will that leave Pristina? Kosovo will still remain unrecognized by the UN, suffer economically, but will however have to abide by the clauses in Ahtissari's proposal with regards to Serbs south of the Ibar or else they may lose Western support .... you will have a situation where K-Albanians can neither have their cake nor eat it .... will you truly be content with this scenario? Eventually you will still have to talk again to the Russians (and by extension Serbia) in the end.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Russians are Slavic; it has everything to do with international law, which even former Vice President Gore recognizes that American foreign policy is “out of touch with reality,” He also states that the present “administration’s pursuit of unilateralism abroad [---] has isolated the United States in an ever more dangerous world”. At home Gore writes that US has violated the rule of law and due process and demonstrated disrespect for the American Constitution while paying lip service to democracy. America uses the same tactics and disrespect in international relations. America supports tribunals for other nations but signs side deals with regimes in Europe and elsewhere so her nationals will not be subject to prosecution by these tribunals. American representatives make lofty speeches about observing international law but they break international law at every turn. Russia sees this as a threat to her national interests and has finally decided to say enough is enough. As I have written before the only democracy in Russia that American administration love is when Russia is on its knees.

to inform you, this " albanian prince " Balsa was a serbian nobleman, who fought against Albanians, so how for gods sake, can you repeat this nonsense here, when it can be checked everywhere on the net, in serious history-books etc.

presenting serbian knights as Albanian "princes", is absolutely laughable, and only shows the lack of justification for their goals.

I am convinced that the Russians would not veto the resolution. The Serbs have become real pain in the neck to the Russians. Russia's future is not with a little republik as Serbia, but with strong nations as France, England, the USA!

Mr Putin know this but it seems that Serbs like Goran Svilanović have convictions of their own!

PB

Victor - Maybe, but at this point in time it suits Russia to use Serbia to have a dig at the West, and that also means that it suits Serbia.

P.S. what else have you been praying for, and since when did GOD buy a PC?

As for Victor obviously you don't know much about politics in the Balkans. Russian and Serbs are both Slavic people with the same religion, of course they want to help.

Arti - If you would quit killing innocent Serbs, forcing them to live in Ghettos, stop burning down Churches and Monastaries, and allow them to work and travel freely then sure, let's live in peace together. There are many options available to the Serbs and Russians - do not be fooled into thinking that the geo-political balance that is in effect today will be here tomorrow. Things in this world change rather rapidly. Today's darling is tomorrow's terrorist!

If independence was so easy task I do not think that the Albanians were going to wait to see what the Russians will say. Instead they will have done this by now and go ahead with proclaining it.
On the contrary, time is working for the Serbs, as I see things, this story will go on for a little while and Albanians in a couple of years will be beggining for partition.
Wake up, Milosevic is dead, there is a new spirit in the air, people want to go ahead with their lives. Albanians are still talking about genocide, i don't see anytrhing like this when I look into the world news, it is the Serbian community and what is left from it that is suffering so forget independence anf be happy with self goverment. Forget the Great Albania dream.

Victor, when you're done praying to St. Anthony for the rest of our unworthy souls, please provide a picture or a reference to back up such a statement. I know I've asked you repeatedly to do so, and the fact you've either been unable to provide a response, or just ignored my request, has not been lost on me. Still, I'll ask you one more time to verify what you are claiming. won't hold my breath though.

Arturo,

It was your people that started the insurrection and forced the hand of the Serb military. You guys are not so innocent. I had been in the region in the 80's and saw first hand all the stuff that Albanian separtists were pulling. You just happen to luck out that our President got busted with his St. Peter being baptized by an intern. He needed a bad guy and the Serbs fit the bill especially after what happened in Srebrenica. Times have changed and now everyone sees your extremism.

Taiwan and tibet).

they are caught in their world of wishful thinking, and there´s only one thing that would help them waking up.
