If Serbia does not want to be held hostage by one man, then Serbians need to stand up and give him over to the authorities. This talk about Mladic having been in Serbia is in the wrong tense - he IS in Serbia, so come on Serbs - stand up for yourselves, for your future, and turn him in! Show the world that you WANT to be a democratic, law-abiding and peaceful nation. The future is up to YOU only, not the U.S., not the EU, but SERBIA.

The ones who are holding Serbia are the Serbs themselves! People like Kotusnica, Tadic, Nikolic... Do you think they think about their people, their nation? Not according to me. They are of the same race as Mladic, Karadzic and the other war criminals who have brought shame on your nation. Think on this berore looking in a passed history.

The fact that Mladic is still at large despite the verdict which accusses him directly of genocide is shocking. New government should be formed as soon as possible and capture the former general under a new Ministry of Interior/ Defence. EU should also ease up on Serbia because it is currently facing greater challenges than any other democratic state in the world- such as its sovereignty, nationalism, corruption etc. Serbia is the key to the region- both Central European and the Southeasteuropean one. It is very keen in joining the EU, so there is a need for dialogue between the two. Serbia seriously requires European support.

A Serbia in the EU will make the EU and the Balkan peninula stronger and heatlthier. Serbia is the central axis in the Balkans which connects Bulgaria and Greece with the rest of their EU partners.

The EU needs to sort out the Balkans and get them ready for the EU. It should provide financial aid to the Western Balkans prospective members and help 'sort out'the Balkan ethnic-national problems once and for all. It should do this by consulting not just the State Department, but also Russia and the EU neighbouring states in the region of the southern Balkans, that is Greece, Bulgaria and Rumania. There is little doubt in my mind that the Kosovo, Bosnia and FYR of Macedonia problems need sorting out once and for all, and quickly. The former two must be divided into appropriate ethnic regions (Serb/Albanian and Serb/Croat/ Bosniak-Muslim) and be allowed to unite with their 'mother'countries -, while the later needs to sort out its problems with its neighbours.

History is a funny thing because I see that people like to revise it. The Germans never arrested anyone after the war. We had the Nueremberg trials because of the Allies and most of the most notorious war criminals ended up having a wonderful life in Argentina. One other fact that you both forgot to mention is that the Amnericans gave the West Germans the Marshall Plan. Why? because the world learned a lesson after the Versailles Treaty... Even the Germans after years of horrific rule still as humans, deserved the Marshall Plan. War criminals such as Mengele, Eichman..just to name a few either escaped justice completely or had to rely on the Moussad to kidnap them and bring them to justice. Were sanctions placed on Germany because of this? Did an entire nation have to be held hostage? Is it the fault of the average citizen? Do we only apply collective guilt to the Serbs?

It is high time for the EU to make the carrots disproportionately higher than the stick. The economic future of millions has NOTHING to do with the fate of any individual.Enough of this linking of economics with politics.

Victor is right. Serbia had the chance to arrest Mladic a lot of times. He was in Serbia...in visible places like the average citizens. But nobody had the moral responsibility or courage to extradite him..the least your "democratic" Kostunica.
I democratic EU there are rules, rights and obligations.
Some of those obligations are moral. The Serbs for some reason have a big problem with it. Sometime they give the impression that the 10 commendments do not apply to them or they interprete them in their twisted way. So they are very different from other Europeens. Will they change? I am very sceptic.

At the end of WW2, the Germans did not give shelter to the war criminal responsible of atrocities, as the Serbs did. Mladic is the the No. 1 responsible for the Srebrenica massacre and for years the Serbian Gov. closed their eyes while Mladic could walk as a free man everywhere in Serbia... and received his pension as a wat hero. Did the Germans did that?

Victor, although it was the Serbs responsibility..one cannot hold an entire nation hostage because of one man. The Allies didn't do that to the Germans after WWII and they committed crimes more horrific than anything imagined. The way of the future is to overcome prejudices and by reading your comments you have an axe to grind. The Serbs deserve prosperity, justice, and the pusuit of happiness just like anyone else. They have also had their share of suffering.

I do not believe the Serbs anymore. They were in a position to arrest Mladic for years and they did not. Their duty is to arrest them; if not, let them stay alon in Serbia.
