I am wondering, and I don't know, what will happen if China or Russia uses the veto. And since when is China threatening Albanians with a veto? Till last year we were like best friends. This is why i agree with the article that the Kosovo issue is being "traded" for other world problems. As always, big elephants deciding for our fate.

Mr.Putin is really having all cards in his hand.

I agree with raso, that there is something of a wishful-thinking within the western-hemisphere... but the master of wishful-thinking are definitely the albanian dreamers.

Russia will always do what is best for itself, no sound person ever doubted that.
this time ( seven years and a lot of improvement within Russia itself ) it won´t be different, except that this time Russians can support Serbia and hereby strenghten their stand on the balkans. and they are playing that game quite well I guess: Montenegro´s coast-line is russian dominated, serbo-russian-trade-agreements secure a free trade with Serbia in the future, a Serbia , centered within the CEFTA...

so which poor person will doubt that all the aces are in Mr.Putin´s hand?

Erik:
it´s irrelevant what the K-albanians want, if they overestimate themselves they will get a slap into their face, by NATO.

but, I don´t want to argue at all, just sit there and watch, you will witness it yourself.

It does not matter what Russia does because Kosovo Albanians want independence period.

Even if UN & KFOR leaves Kosov Serbia will newer manage to controll Kosovo again without war and an aparthaid system, and that will not happen, not in Europe anyway.

Those times are gone.

SO
Lest say that Russia blocks Kosovos Independence.

Albanians will declare Independence a few days later. Who can stop them from that.

Russia cant stop albanians with a veto. If they want to stop them Russia will have to send their army to fight for it. So the answer is big NO.

Serbia, I don't think so because they have to use force and that would lead to a new NATO ATTACK to prevent a Balkan war.

And after declaring independence, lets say that Russia and 2 or 3 other countries don't recognise Kosovo.

NO BIG DEAL..

I think that Kosovo can live with that.

Mike, like so many people on this site you don't seem to be aware of the fact that Russia is actually a member of the 'Partnership for Peace'. So they shouldn't really be bothered if Serbia is a member as well...
I agree with people that say that Russia will always only look at their own interest. But don't all (large) countries do the same? Serbia is naive to put too much trust in others. We've seen where that lead us in '98.

Russia will not block, they will settle for a trade.
Russia has no interest in supporting Serbia to keep Kosovo.
It's Serbian " zabluda" that the Russian brother will help.
The moment they get something, they will not veto.
Serbia's current signals toward EU and especially NATO partnership makes Russia have no interest to support Serbia.
Wake up people, Kosovo is gone.
In 1980's when Yugolavia was falling appart, my belief was" Serbia se u Krajini brani" and since this did not happen, Serbia will be partitoned even further after Kosovo is officially gone from Serbia......What's next is Vojvodina.

The Russian bear does not see the rush because he does not have REAL-KLA snipers aimed at his head like the UNMIK personnel in Kosovo do.The REAL-KLA freedom fighters can only keep their guns out of commission for so long without them getting rusty. They will have to put them back in action against anybody who stands in their way of getting independence at any cost.O what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive. The chessmaster in Moscow is brilliantly playing the game.

maybe some psychologist can help me out, but it´s obvious that the western media and politicians are going throu a lot of well known phases.

right now it´s the hoping-phase.

one simple question: what a trade off??? what can the west offer??? they don´t have anything to offer when it´s about their very own interest (see the negotiations about the new russia-eu-treaty).

what was the offer in the iran-case (and russia has far more economic interests in serbia as main investor then in iran)?

does the writer really think putin and traitor yeltsin are the same political sphere???

does the writer really think putin can be brought in line with nothing worth western promisses (just like gorbatchov or yeltsin)??

does the writer really think that takeing away land from serbia without reason or legitimicy while in the same time puting us-missiles in front of russias nose (poland, czechia) was a clever idea??? or selling nato weapons to georgia???

does the writer really think that russia is repairing serbias airforce for serbias action in afghanistan???

there´s going to be a lot of border changes on the balkans (artificial constructs like greater croatia or rest-"bosnia" is going to be corrected), but not that one that the west dreams about!
