I’d like to rename Istanbul to be Constantinople, although Byzantium would be better.

No, that is non sense. The Netherlands has always named itself the Netherlands. It was only the marketing concept to promote itself "Holland" that was changed into the Netherlands. But officially, the Netherlands was always the Netherlands. Or rather, the Kingdom of the Netherlands when the country became a monarchy and the Republic of the Netherlands before that.
Turkey's ploy is just for nationalistic/Ottoman reasons and also perhaps to expand it influence to other Turkish speaking countries in Central Asia.
