100% agree, the ultimate costs even of a single case are astronomic and very likely they will be a victims of usual hospital scam (double and triple billing).
European travel and health insurances (Allianz) routinely refuse to cover that scam, the only way to avoid it is to use a more expensive American-based visitor insurance.
I doubt, they were prepared - so it is prudent to take them home. In addition, NY is one of the most hit States.

That won't work at all. An Aussie on МКАД (autobahn ring around Moscow) would worse than Coronavirus.

If he understands Russian I can imagine him listening to the police news:

"A crazy car going on МКАД in opposite direction"
