nato was frustrated at their lack of success in bombing Serbia and thought the Chinese embassy was supplying intelligence to the Serb army and protecting milosovic , of course the bombing was deliberate. NATO hit hospitals, bridges, trains, TV stations because they couldn't hit military targets and wanted to frighten the civilian population. After the bombing NATO couldn't believe the little damage done to the army. If, in the unlikely event the bombing was an accident, it shows how incompetent NATO is.

Might have been deliberate????? There is no might, it was deliberate. That little piece of US stupidity cost Washington a very heavy price. It would have been cheaper for the US to pay to rebuild the new Chinese Embassy with 24 carat gold bricks than what had occurred.

Clinton conceded many things to Beijing which under normal conditions they could have used against the Chinese.

Since this news article concerns China and someone in the comment section made references to Milosevic I thought of something and that is the same year that Milosevic passed away in his cell some or many of us are aware that he requested the Hague tribunal to seek medical treatment in Russia which was denied because of concern he would avoid returning to the Hague to face trial for war crimes despite Russia assuring his return to the Hague my question is if Milosevic requested the Hague to seek medical treatment in China would his request be denied because since China maintains close relations with Serbia the prosecution worried that China wouldn't keep its promise to send him back to the Hague? By the way I don't care if pro-Milosevic Chinese are upset that the Hague wouldn't let Milosevic receive medical treatment outside Holland.

From what I saw Clinton was just as surprised about the bombing. It’s obvious that the planning and execution were done by the US military/intelligence services. An attack on an embassy is a declaration of war on that country, and I think no further explanation of why Clinton had to contact the Chinese was necessary.

The bit about the strong is so true. The West threw bombs left right and center in Kosovo and by the end of the war about 10,000 Albanians were killed. Some were killed by Serbs but about 90% lost their lives from NATO bombs. Then there is the depleted uranium that the US dropped in southern Kosovo that is still there today causing cancers and yet after all that the Albanians are very quiet while the US sent its condolences to Serbia about the bombing and loss of Serbian lives. We live in a funny world where the Us is far more concerned about their enemy than their friends.

It's quite funny reading the comments claiming NATO did very little damage to Serbia assets... They have thrown tons and tons of explosives... If they threw potatoes, Serbs would be still cleaning :).

From what I saw Clinton was just as surprised about the bombing. It’s obvious that the planning and execution were done by the US military/intelligence services. It was a high-risk gamble; to what end? I don’t know, but it ended in failure. NATO had all the coordinates of every Embassy in Belgrade so to claim a mistake is utter BS.
An attack on an embassy is a declaration of war on that country, and I think no further explanation of why Clinton had to contact the Chinese was necessary.
China was just beginning to emerge as an economic power and the US controlled the bulk of the international institutions such as the WTO, World Bank, IMF, International Finance Corporation and many others. Since China posed a serious threat the US could use membership/full access to these organisations to shape outcomes to their benefit.
The US conceded membership to the WTO and access to financial organisations. It surrendered all their leverage because of the “accidental bombing”, paid for a new embassy plus compensation to families who lost relatives.

Oh man, why do you act as a fool. Both of you ( serbians and russians know pretty well that spying radars which were used against NATO aircrafts were installed inside the Chinese Embassy , therefore NATO bombed it.
