A Spanish warship has tried to order commercial vessels to leave British waters around Gibraltar, but the British Navy opposed it.

The territory of Gibraltar was ceded to the UK in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. Its citizens have since then rejected the prospect of Spanish sovereignity on a number of occasions.
