Why is Serbia so desperate to have Kosovo’s imposed 10% taraff lifted, sj. You know the answer little sj. Serbia is, as they say, between a rock and a hard place. I’m enjoying watching the Serbs squirm. Which countries will step forward to support Serbia.
(Mary, 21 November 2018 15:44)

It has more to do with the US and EU than Kosovo but it would take too long to explain it to you and in the end I doubt you would understand.
Which countries will come to support Serbia, well for one it will be the EU LOL. You see there is a little thing called CEFTA and Pristina's actions are endangering the agreement so I expect by the weekend your Albos will hoist the white flag.
One interesting point Serbia can do much more damage to Kosovo if it chose to follow that path but its letting your western friends do the work for them. Here is an interesting scenarios. Serbia imposes heavy taxes on all Kosovo vehicles going into and out of Kosovo except for Serbs. I can see your Albos driving through Montenegro, but they have to go through Republika Srpska who will also impose a heavy tax so that's out. Next option is you drive from Kosovo to Macedonia then Bulgaria then Romania then Hungary to get to Germany. And that is only one option; there are about a dozen more and these would cripple Kosova LOL.

You went there for the automotive G/C, I assume? Kosovo is probably better than Albania - or just use Clements,

It is very frustrating that Serbia does not issue G/C for the cars with foreign plates. Clements is overpriced of course - but it works.

G/C is sold all over Kosovo, probably a better deal.

That "fee" used to be "environmental" fee, "reserved" for drivers of the car. It was very specific to Albania and Romania.

Both abolished it a while ago, good riddance. I never was asked to pay anything in AL or RO.

KS is a different story - they have no "Green Card" insurance and if you drive a car with non-Serbian or non-KS plates in the theory you had to pay for the borderline insurance.
As the KS/SR officers told me, the borderline insurance goes towards some mafia boss in Pristina (of course) and even A-Kosovars were not very diligent to collect that.

At one point the EULEX occupied every single booth and some "friendly" American officers have the watchful eyes on Kosovars, so now it's 29 Euro (as I recall), firm.

All you can do is to verbally challenge these a**holes because they are paid by OUR taxes - we have the right to hold them accountable.

Nothing will change of course, but at least you can give them some hard time for that 29 Euro.

Still I would use the car. Far more convenient than the bus. And the roads aren't that bad.

Why is Serbia so desperate to have Kosovo’s imposed 10% taraff lifted
(Mary, 21 November 2018 15:44)

Because both EU and Eurasian Union (that is, Belarus - Russia - Kazakhstan) expect Serbia to fight the organized crime.

Of course, compared to Germany or Russia Serbia is very weak. Serbs want to produce some results, ASAP.

The 10% is supporting the organized crime. So no good news to the "strong" nations to be reported, only: "sorry, the hillbillies in Pristina spoiled the fun".

With all due understanding of the situation, the message from Berlin and Moscow will be the same: "please fight the organized crime back, otherwise no money to you from us".

Easy to say. But Serbia has very little resources.

Result: no one is happy, except the mafia.

Honcho

pre 5 godina

Regarding organized crime.

Please try to cross the German or Eurasion Union border and handle your passport for the control with 100 Euro inside of it.

That action will put you in a "nice" German, Belarus or Russian jail immediately. Feel free to explain the situation to the judge later.

If someone does not know: there is a clear warning on the border to check, your passport has no money inside.

If you cross the Macedonian border and have Russian or American plates on your car - you are IN DEEP TROUBLE. Except if you do not have money in your passport.

The Russian "fee" for crossing the border is 5 Euro, the "American" fee is 100 Euro.

I was subject to both. At first, I paid 5 Euro. Than I called the FYROM embassy, they told me, I should refuse to pay anything.

Next time they asked for 100, I told them to f*ck off, that was on FYROM-Albanian border. No complain to Albanians, this was a FYROM-maniac mafiosi. I refused to pay, guess what - I was in AL few minutes later. But the FYROM-maniac guy had a very sour face.

Lesson: refuse to pay any bribe, report all cases to higher supervisors.

Pristina signed several agreements on trade that was endorsed by the EU and all Serbia is doing is letting Brussels enforce those agreements. Knowing that Brussels tends to look the other way at times then you say no more talks until this is settled. Its not only Serbia but Bosnia as well.
A 10% tariff is not an imposition on Serbia, but on your local Albos who will pay a higher price at the supermarket. It costs Serbia nothing because they still sell you the food products at the same price. It’s your Albos that pay the higher prices. That’s how it works.
Serbia is only rubbing your noses in the agreements that’s all LOL.

(Mary, 20 November 2018 17:20)

To the contrary. And the 10% tax will even rise the organized crime.

- The purchase price of any Serbian product is determined by the local mafia who controls the market.
- That mafia is ethnically quite mixed
- The country of origin is not easy to determine - some ingredients can be from the E.U., some from Eurasian Union, some local.
For Serbian producers all these are essentially customs-free.
- The mafia has all connections to CG, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria.
- The produce is shipped to an other mafiosi middle-man, is re-labeled / re-packed - and goes to Kosovo.

Result: mafia is better of, Kosovo population pays for the little extra trip and re-packing.
And of course at the end is an Albanian "biznisman" dealing with "Kosova" customs.
Of course, they will agree on all "fees".

Where is a room for the black market, it will grow there.

What if the product is a service or IT ?
In particular, regarding IT no country in the region can compete with Serbia.

Albanian end-user will just travel to Belgrade, receive the necessary training, get all components in little pieces - and assemble the entire thing back in Pristina.
Back in 1980-s we did exactly that in what used to be COMECON.
Similar was done in 1990-s during the sanctions by Serbs in Jugoslavija.

This 10% is a toothless, stupid measure, done by dumbasses whose training is only how to ride a donkey uphill.

Obviously, the legal 10% taraff on all Serb goods entering Kosovo has gotten Serbia’s attention. The resulting hysteria exhibited by the Serb leadership indicates Kosovo has more power than sj could ever have imagined. Good job, Albanians, let the Serbs squirm.

No EU until Serbia recognizes Kosovo. Even if Serbia does that depends what Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and few other countries decide to do. They too have problems with Serbia (minority rights, unsolved border issues, etc).
(Avni, 20 November 2018 11:01)

What Germany should do is tell Serbia no more Chapters until you recognize Kosovo, but they wont LOL. You keep on hoping so much that it will go astray, but I am sad to say it will not even though I'd love for Serbia to stay out. Albos want to join the EU thinking it will be freebies time again like under Tito.

No one will ask those countries the time of day let alone who comes into the EU. You have to understand that its Berlin alone that makes that decision not hangers on. That's just an illusion they have created where countries have a say - remember how Croatia would not sign commencing chapters with Serbia? Remember how stupid they turned out??????

But when I went (by bus, from Ulcinj to Shkoder) with my American passport, I didn't have to pay anything
