The hourly rate that would satisfy the criterion that working in the US is far better starts at $25 and up”. (sj, 20 August 2018 12:05)

That's an insane calculation considering that average household income in Serbia was only $2504 as of December 2017.

But even if sj's citation was true, average household income in the US was $57,000+. That's more than one person working full-time and earning $25/hr. So both parts of sj's claim are baseless.

But to see the logical incoherence of what he writes, note what he recently commented:

"The greatest tragedy was the fall of Communism...the US took over and today we have people working for a pittance just to survive..."

We have been listening endlessly to his claim that Serbs have a standard of living that is equal to Americans but now all of a sudden he writes that Serbs are working for a pittance, just to survive.

The only thread that ties all of sj's statements together is his obsession and hatred for "the West." Facts are only used by him -- twisted and distorted -- to try to slam "the West," especially the US. That is why he writes contradictory statements depending on which type of argument he is crafting.

Overwhelmed by bitterness and living without respect for facts, love of truth, or logical coherence of his beliefs, there is no benefit to interacting with him.

I like how the New Testament says it: don't cast your pearls before swine!

You never pass up an opportunity to prove yourself completely clueless about Serbia (and economics), do you?

No offense - but both of you sound precisely like two Serbs, who decided to argue, how many angels can fit on the top of a needle.

"Who was talking about supermarkets? Why not read my post correctly. In fact, I mention local markets several times..."

About the only folks buying abroad are supermarkets. So they're the only ones you could be referring to. You think the guys sitting in the open markets all around Serbia are importing from foreign countries; selling imported tomatoes for 40rsd/kg and watermelon for 20rsd/kg? You never pass up an opportunity to prove yourself completely clueless about Serbia (and economics), do you?

"It matters little what they charge at the local markets but where they source the produce and long gone are those days were the producer would turn up to sell his/her produce at the local market except for cheese and clotted cream. That is still mostly done by people in villages."

Very few Serbs buy their fruits and vegetables in supermarkets. 90% buy at local markets because the price is lower and quality is higher. You would have known that if you lived in Serbia.
(JS, 19 October 2018 12:09)

The problem with people like you, fictive Serb, is they think they are smart, but it’s the extreme opposite.
It matters little what they charge at the local markets but where they source the produce and long gone are those days were the producer would turn up to sell his/her produce at the local market except for cheese and clotted cream. That is still mostly done by people in villages.
The problem is further exacerbated by the fact that the young don’t stay in villages, so the only farmers left are old and near pension age. Its only in the last year and a half Serbia started to offer some assistance to young staying in villages.
Serbia imports from Macedonia fruits, nuts, citrus, melons and vegetables aka fresh and canned – some years more some less depending on conditions in Serbia. It also imports steel, raw iron and plastics. Since you live in Serbia next time you are in Belgrade pop in at the Ministry of Finance corner of Knez Milos and Nemaninja streets and ask them what goods Serbia imports from Macedonia.
The only thing you could laugh at is your lack of awareness despite living in “Serbia”. As I said you display all the hallmarks of schooling in the US – amazing LOL.
Ps I saw a program on RTS recently on this very subject and they were quoting similar prices for fruit and vegetables and talking about the overabundance of these items.

Not being part of the EU, it is much more difficult for Serbs to export to Germany or France than other EU member States to sell there. That's the point, and there is nothing controversial about it.
(JS, 18 October 2018 12:25)
================================
Who says Serbia would be given the green light to export that or anything else if it joins EU?
Serbia might just be forced to import inferior cr@ap from other member states.

JS

If you lived here, you would know there is a massive overabundance of fruits and vegetables. In season, the markets are packed full. In fact, massively overstocked is the most accurate description.

This summer we were buying paprika for as little as 6rsd; watermelon for as little as 10rsd per kilo; and tomatoes for as little as 20rsd per kilo.

Oh, yes, this nonsense about buying watermelon from Macedonia because we don't produce enough. While our markets are overloaded with them in season.

Oh yeah, and those truckloads of tomatoes that the Vlasotince threw in the river last year, was that in protest because of high prices because too many of the farmers were exporting their tomatoes to EU countries?

If it makes you happy, just keep sitting there in your office chair in Australia showing yourself to be completely ignorant about real life in Serbia. We are enjoying every laugh!

sj

I’m not sure which decade you live in, but the EU and Serbia have signed several trade agreements and I’m not talking about tomatoes or watermelons, which Serbia does not grow sufficient quantities, so they import those from Macedonia.
You definitely do not live in Serbia otherwise you would know what Serbia has signed.

The only place you are travelling to is the social security office in Chicago.

"I don’t live in Serbia and neither do you"

Who are you trying to convince? You remind me of the Canaanites. No matter how many times they bowed the knee to Baal, the false god did not come to life or do anything for them. You can repeat an untruth until you are red in the face but it won't make it true. Whether you like it or not, I live in Serbia and you don't.

I would (once again) send greetings from Serbia but I am traveling at the moment.

JS

@ sj

You can't just build furniture and drive it to Ljubljana and put it in a store to sell. You can't raise some tomatoes and watermelon and just drive them to Hungary and sell them in a Budapest market.

Not being part of the EU, it is much more difficult for Serbs to export to Germany or France than other EU member States to sell there. That's the point, and there is nothing controversial about it.

What are you talking about? What argument is that? You asked a question.
“The factories are beneficial, no doubt about that. I should have separated paragraphs because the problematic part is Serbian companies, especially farmers trying to export finished products to the EU. Its difficult business. It isn't like manufacturing in Ohio and selling the finished product in Michigan.”
I gave you the answer so what argument is that?. What have you been drinking?

Its more like you are the petulant child when someone shows you up that have no idea what you are talking about.

I don’t live in Serbia and neither do you

sj

pre 5 godina

(JS, 18 October 2018 10:17)

No its not difficult at all. The EU has trade agreements with Serbia which allow Serbian companies to sell their products in the EU provided there is a market for them.
For example, two companies that sell their products in the EU are Forma Ideale manufactures of cheap furniture and Srce Sweets both from Kragujevac. There are others such as manufacturers of kit homes etc.
I found many people in Serbia are switched on to how the world works, but you exhibit all the signs of someone who lives in the US and you claim you live in Serbia.

JS

"How does that prove problematic?"

Ramush, where were you educated? These new factories are not owned by the Serbian Government, but by EU companies. They opened for business in Serbia because of favourable investment conditions to them and they will bring some of those finished products back to the EU and sell them while others will be sold outside the EU. How does that prove problematic?
