Croatia along with other contries were fortunate in penalty shootouts. Extremely lucky.
As for quality it is clear that Belgium, Brazil and Spain are still better teams than Croatia. They just did not come against those teams.
If the World Cup achievement was worth anything at all to Croatia then it's a shame they went and undermined all the good they did with that bizzare and inappropriate home-coming to Zagreb where the stars were not the footballers but a controversial individual like MP Thompson. Sadly his input seemed more welcome than the footballers. I think it's called an "own-goal" in football parlance!!
