Etihad lost $1.5 Billion in 2017 and is struggling to survive and needs money.

The deal they made with the Serbian government for Air Serbia was a money maker for them. They already were able to pull out all of their investments in Air Serbia by using management and leasing agreements to their advantage. The Serbian government has subsidized the company for years and will continue to do so for pride. Etihad knows this and is happy for Serbian taxpayers to pour money into the airline to pretend to show a profit for public consumption. While they keep draining money from it using the agreements they made.
