I know the people in question. An Australian of Italian heritage married an American woman and they came to live in Sydney. The mother-in-law wanted to welcome this young woman and went out and purchased an Italian coffee machine and coffee, but that did not impress this young lady. One day they went into a MacDonald’s and she had that slurry they call coffee; her response was “ahhh real coffee for a change”.

Americans don’t know what real coffee tastes like so Starbucks will be perfect for them. All sugar, like their food, and they will be happy.

Even their strong coffee is weak by European standards... (except perhaps the UK and Ireland). You won't see many Serbs drinking coffee there and I don't blame them.

Domestic places are cheaper and have more character. Also pljeskavica beats McDonalds by far. But Starbucks and McDonalds are good for tourists/foreigners who need coffee/burger quickly and don't know about the local places.

haha @prava kafa, true, but Starbucks also has Americano which is just plain filtered coffee, and in some countries like Turkey, they offer Turkish coffee.

It’ll serve the market of foreigners who are on business in Serbia. Locals do not drink diluted, sweetened, “mocha latte grandes”.
