It wasn't like this in Europe even before WW1, says Vucic

The climate has changed in Europe, the situation in the world has never been this complicated, not even before the First World War, says Aleksandar Vucic.

It sounds like you haven't been in New York City since Serbia was a monarchy. Serbia has some of the slowest and most disgusting trains around. The only nice trains are the ones recently donated by the Russians. But they still only travel at 25km per hour because the tracks haven't been repaired in years. Try riding the train around Serbia once or twice. Unless you can somehow patch together enough train services that have the new Russian rail cars, I promise you will never do it again.

AFAIK, Jagodina has the closest railway station if you want to visit Manasija.
At the time we went to Manasija the place was called Svetozarevo.

Now it is Jagodina but we do not use railway anymore, it is in quite bad shape.

Car is more convenient.

To Honcho
It is been called Jagodina now for 25 years , so you visited over 25 years ago .
Their is a new train service, from Belgrade to Nis that Stops at Jagodina City .
The train services is newer and better then the Sydney or New York dirty, filthy services you get .
A lot has changed in Serbia in last 5 years ,let alone when it was called Svetozarevo 😁.
Since Svetozarevo , now Jagodina City has a new football Stadium (to UEFA standard), Zoo ,Aqua Water slides Park ,Fountain Park ,Wax Museaum and 2 new shopping centres )).
I get tired of reading people's thought and expression when they never been in the region or vidited 25 years ago when Yugoslavia))

By the comment of fellow commenters here one may conclude that Balkans are not ready for EU for another 100 years, but they are ready for war tomorrow.

You're wasting your time trying to persuade the Albanian crowd on how the EU creates money out of thin air and as a result throws few scraps at them. The big problems will start when the fat lady stops singing(printing)and it's being pencilled to happen before the end of the year.

As I said, if they invest money on you, they will ensure you recognize Kosovo one way or another. And the EU can’t be status neutral when more than half of it has recognized. Any policy that favors Serbia has to have the okay of those who have recognized Kosovo, otherwise it won’t happen. Also percentage wise there’s much more money going to Kosovo than Serbia, even though it might seem less because of the population numbers being different. Either way you look at it Kosovo has the upper hand on Serbia.

"How are you comparing it? Purely monetary? What about quality of life, family values and other aspects?"

But I thought you said it's contaminated by depleted uranium...

"That's what I love about Serbia, the hospitality, the people."

There is truth in this. But there are a lot of seljak -- people who are extremely uneducated, rough, and disrespectful. Nearly every village has its fair share of cursing, drunk men sitting in front of the local market. I have never seen anything comparable in the US.

"They don't need as much to have a good life. Families stay together longer and family values are strong."

There is some truth in this. But nearly every family gets into a lawsuit about inheritance, many older people are left in the village to fend for themselves, and I don't know what family values you are referring to...

"Things are not as expensive."

True, for products made in Serbia. But electronics cost 40% more and fuel is more than double the price in America.

"Eastern Europeans are all over western Europe. They earn more but the cost of living is also much higher. At the end of the day, is it any better?"

But why are they still there?

"They gain is some respects and lose in others. Many have gone back home."

To retire. Because it's much cheaper to live in Serbia than Germany, Switzerland, etc.

It wasn't like this in Europe even before WW1, says Vucic

Serbia before WWI executed their own king and his wife, started two wars with her neighbors and was involved in the assassination of another head of state which sparkled WWI.
While Vucic is by any stretch of imagination Queen Draga, the way Serbia is behaving now is clear indication that is interested in repeating the history.
That's why Croatia, Albania and Montenegro joined NATO, with FYROM rushing to secure herself too.
Croatia, Albania and Montenegro need to seriously update and modernize their Armies and Air Forces. Kosovo also needs to turn FSK into a regular army as well.
Is not a question of "If Serbia will attack" its a question of "when will attack".

I drove last year the full length of Italy and back. The north is a normal industrial country, on the surface, but the south is visibly broken, with a rapidly decaying infrastructure once you exit the autostarda, and loads of people busy doing nothing.
I don’t think the EU will collapse as a result of the actions of one country but rather because of combination of events taking place which will bring the whole edifice to a breaking point.Take for example Target 2 which was designed as the EUs payment system and ended being the EUs C/C.The difference with normal C/C is the interest is zero and the loan never need to be repaid.Italy and Spain owe collectively 1trillion/e to Germany which will never recover. This year alone Italy will have to roll over nearly 20% of its debt of 2.4 Trillion/e with no buyers in sight and the ECB as the buyer of last resort.

You're wasting your time trying to persuade the Albanian crowd on how the EU creates money out of thin air and as a result throws few scraps at them. The big problems will start when the fat lady stops singing(printing)and it's being pencilled to happen before the end of the year.

I know, but it makes fools out of the Albos since hey think money comes out of thin air and yet they get nothing.

By the comment of fellow commenters here one may conclude that Balkans are not ready for EU for another 100 years, but they are ready for war tomorrow.

Are you aware that the EU is still printing money to kick start its economy?

@sasa
