Thoughts of enlargement weaken Europe, says French president

Macron lost all my respect when he proposed French could be a more important language in EU after Brexit - Non merci, petit Napoleon!

I don't like Emmanuel Macron he is dangerous. Pushing hard for a all EU army and putting NATO to the sidelines. Big mistake and deepening EU bureaucratic dictatorial powers. Looks like a another Napoleon forming only this one will be unbelievable worse. Even if he has the name Emmanuel means "God with us". Just to through people off to his real nature. That dose not have anything to do with God but very much the opposite.

The EU does not need any more country from the Balkan with their troubled relationships to each other. This would be the end of the EU. Stop enlargement immediately.

The Balkan countries would be better off with their own independent union, based on similar lines to the EU.

Most particularly they should use the law to stamp out the eternally pathetic antagonism between Balkan countries.

I mention Croatia in that regard - ironically a country in the EU!

Bob: The theory of an independent Balkan bloc is fine as long as it is a cooperation between sovereign states rather than a 1980s and 1990s style Jugoslavija with one nation attempting to subjugate the others. If those currently in power can show the necessary respect towards each that would be a good start. Unfortunately memories are long in the Balkans and forgiveness in short supply. National hatreds still trump the mutual benefits that would accrue from closer cooperation. I hope that this changes in my lifetime; the ordinary people deserve much better from those in authority.

He has my sympathy. Time will tell, I am wrong or not.
