That is not entirely true (apart from the part that it will be a global catastrophe). Russian military doctrine foresees in the use of tactical nuclear weapons -so called battlefield nuclear weapons- when faced with overwhelming conventional forces on the battlefield. These are not strategic nuclear weapons as ICBMs are, but nuclear weapons deployed on the battlefield at the discretion of battlefield commanders. The West is also working towards that direction. Since if there ever would be a confrontation between NATO and Russia (heaven forbids) then that will be fought out in Europe with the risk that tactical nuclear weapons will be used. That means that Europe will be destroyed. Both Russia and America could even walk away from this without being destroyed by nuclear weapons although the risk that thing would escalate into MAD are very high.
So, why doesn't everybody tone the rhetoric down a bit before we destroy the planet?

That is not entirely true (apart from the part that it will be a global catastrophe). Russian military doctrine foresees in the use of tactical nuclear weapons -so called battlefield nuclear weapons- when faced with overwhelming conventional forces on the battlefield. These are not strategic nuclear weapons as ICBMs are, but nuclear weapons deployed on the battlefield at the discretion of battlefield commanders. The West is also working towards that direction. Since if there ever would be a confrontation between NATO and Russia (heaven forbids) then that will be fought out in Europe with the risk that tactical nuclear weapons will be used. That means that Europe will be destroyed. Both Russia and America could even walk away from this without being destroyed by nuclear weapons although the risk that thing would escalate into MAD are very high.
So, why doesn't everybody tone the rhetoric down a bit before we destroy the planet?

The issue with Russia is that there is none, the US needs to feel in control of the planet. Its a shame that the majority of my people in the United States believe their government and their media.
