I think the part of the secret is that YU was much more advanced before 1990-s than any country of COMECON. To certain degree, Serbia is still having that part of the past.

If you look at Croatia or Slovenia - despite being now in EU and having much less losses than Serbia in 1990-s both are probably only as far "ahead" of Serbia as they used to be before.

What all they have in common: since late 1960-s the infrastructure of YU did barely see any investment. Think about the disasterous dismantling of Bosnian railway infrastructure or where the national airline(s) are now.

That plagues all of them. The much-hoped Chinese investment turned out to be an other disaster, by the way. Not because Chinese are so bad - it's because Serbian and Hungarian government is so corrupt and stupid.

About level of living based on facts in Bulgaria they grow the minimum salary at 260 euro from january 2018 that is under Serbia , at pensions they grow with 3% , Serbia grow with 5% . Also public sector in Bulgaria grow with 5% and in Serbia with 10%

Bulgaria is memember of Union European + without what happened to Serbia + without economical recension in 2010s

I think the part of the secret is that YU was much more advanced before 1990-s than any country of COMECON. To certain degree, Serbia is still having that part of the past.

If you look at Croatia or Slovenia - despite being now in EU and having much less losses than Serbia in 1990-s both are probably only as far "ahead" of Serbia as they used to be before.

What all they have in common: since late 1960-s the infrastructure of YU did barely see any investment. Think about the disasterous dismantling of Bosnian railway infrastructure or where the national airline(s) are now.

That plagues all of them. The much-hoped Chinese investment turned out to be an other disaster, by the way. Not because Chinese are so bad - it's because Serbian and Hungarian government is so corrupt and stupid.

I do not know, as much as I was in SRB / HR / UA / RU recently I completely missed BG. I was more in RO and AL than BG.

Maybe it's stupid but I do not feel very safe driving around BG or TR or leave the car there without attendance. MK, KS or GR was OK, by the way, too.

I still see houses made in Chruschyov / Ceausescu / Hoxha era, these are quite bad.
The houses built under Kádár or Tito are much-much better.

Sure, until BG recognises, Kosovo won't be a country for BG and vice-versa, until Kosovo recognises, BG won't be a country for Kosovo. And the same goes for every other country in the world - each of them decides on its own which other country to recognise or not. I totally agree though that it would be a beautiful world if BG were appointed as the Global Authority on Country Recognition, but unfortunately that has not happened, yet.
