This statement just shows that even a sophisticated and educated country like Russia can be woefully ignorant of world events which took place long ago and in a far off land. The Donbas and Srebrenica have nothing at all in common.

Srebrenica is more akin to Raqqa; it was an ISIS base in the heart of Europe. ISIS cutthroats (yes, I know we didn’t call them ISIS at the time) would swarm out of their Srebrenica base and descended on unfortunate Serbian villages. Any Serbs who wouldn’t or couldn’t flee, were slaughtered in the most horrible fashion. For reasons which remain a mystery, the ISIS of Srebrenica abandoned the town and retreated to Tuzla and other Moslem-controlled towns. Most of the Srebrenica ISIS fighters reached safety, a few thousand were killed in battles with Bosnian Serb troops surrounding Srebrenica. This is what happened in Raqqa. ISIS were given free passage to leave the town by the Americans and they were transferred to the front to fight the Syrian Army.

How is any of this related to the war in Donbas? Is President Putin comparing heroic defenders of the Donbas with Srebrenica ISIS cutthroats? Is he comparing the Bosnian Serb Army with the Neo-Nazi Ukrainians who are besieging Donbas. These statements, if indeed they are true and not more Fake News, are truly bizarre.

I do not know, why - but actively EXTERMINATE the civilian population of your opponent was never a mainstream military doctrine in Russia. I can think about Kahtyn maybe - but that was done by forces of NKVD and in secrecy, not by regular army. If you can find similar, you are welcome to tell, you have to look very hard.

There was nothing ever like Srebrenica or Hiroshima or Nagasaki or bombing of Dresden done / masterminded by Russians.


Looking at what happened with French prisoners of war during Napoleon campaign... we rather MULTIPLY them than EXTERMINATE.

I do not know, why - but in North-East Europe there is a chronic shortage of men since eons. The French guys captured by Russians lived like pasha in the village they were kept.... making many-many French babies.

That's why we have so many people with French family names today.


So for us such things are difficult to defend... be it Hiroshima or Srebrenica.

I can debate here with Roberto, how many dead civilians mean that the commander of the army is a psychopath. There is nothing to defend in Srebrenica (be it 800 or 8000). Regardless of that number Ratko Mladic is a psycho.
