So far the news regarding this situation began with " brawl " meaning two opposing groups fighting, now what we read in the media is seven serb's and ione Greek jump and beat African American. I think they went a bit overboard by beating the young guy to death and they are wrong for it. I doubt it was racism. I think it was chauvanism and machismo. Eastern European men are very protective of their women. Something I have learned a long time ago. Unfortunately, this poor guy didn't get the memo.
Personally, I would never go to a foreign country, attend a bar, get drunk and flirt with the waitress/ barmaid and be rude to the security guard/ bouncer. That would be suicide.
If he wanted to flirt with foreign women the appropriate place would be a night club and not get drunk. The women will let you know if they are interested or not.
Just saying.
There will always be brawls, the key is what were the intent of the perpetrators?
I can't believe the contrast between the comments on the Serbian language site and the English language one.
On the Serbian one they are almost 95% in favor of letting those Serbians arrested rot in prison for the rest of their lives, there are comments such as " let then stay there in prison rather then come back to Serbia and cause problems here"
They see them as the killers they are.
While here in the English site the nationalists who think Serbs can do no wrong are trying to defend their actions and grasping at any point whether it is true or not to try to give some justification for the murder.

1 guy gets beaten in death by 8 men in a pub brawl. Because the attackers were Serbs, you have decided that they are completely innocent. Now, B92 and the Greek press are describing this even as "a bar brawl gone wrong, where the victim had no one to blame but himself from disrupting the lives of these 8 innocent people who unwillingly were called to defend themselves and other patrons".
Only in Greece or Serbia a 8 against 1 is called "a brawl".
The rest of the world would swear that's lynching.
In a week all this would be forgotten and most of these criminals would get a slap on the wrist - 6 months maximum with probation. That's the Greek way!
I'll bet my right hand the lawyers of the defendants would invoke the bombing of Yugoslavia as one of the reasons for the reaction (even thought most of them weren't even born or babies in 1999) .
