As a Serb I would like to see Serbia join NATO, so that we can finally see an end to all this pathetic anti-NATO rhetoric and pathos. It is way beyond stale, it is unbearable and just empowers the narrow-minded and irrational to be most vocal about their infantile concepts of some ultimate poetic justice. That needs to stop. There are far more important matters we should tackle and we are trailing behind.

Of course the Serbs will now see NATO differently: they will now perceive NATO even worse than before.

If, that is, one can see someone as worse than monstrous.

I can work anywhere on this planet. I have worked in Asia and South East Asia for about 25 years and I can work in Serbia, Russia, US, Canada, China, South America, anywhere and be extremely well paid for what I do. My children live in Australia plus I have grandchildren.
I have never said that Serbia is doing fantastically as it still has plenty to go before reaching that target. All I read from your lot is that Russia is ruined or bankrupt because of the price of oil and so on. Its neither.
If Russia is suffering due to oil prices then why isn’t Exxon bankrupt? Or BP or Shell oil??????? Get the drift?
Your praise for the west is ludicrous since they are also suffering from the global economic downturn. About 8 years ago in Australia it took a graduate 3 to 6 months to find the right job. Today, it 2.5 years. Get the picture now?
I notice that its taken a long time for you to realise China is not poor. There are over 2.5 million foreigners living and working there and most are, can you guess? Well they are Americans.
Even Middle East refugees do not nominate US as a final destination only Germany, Switzerland, Norway or Sweden and even they are experiencing economic problems due to the world downturn.
Don’t sit on your brains but use them to think with.

To J: One thing that I have learnt since working in Germany - there is no love lost between Austria and Germany. Austria is responsible for two world wars yet always projects itself as a victim. The world would be a better place without either.
(Tony (a Brit currently working in Berlin), 15 May 2017 20:05)

Spot on. I would only like to add that while Germany was winning the Austrians were happy to be part of the Third Reich or a Greater Germany. However, once Germany lost the war the Austrians were claiming that they were occupied by Germany and sought compensation despite Austria having more members of the Nazi Party than Germany. The world would be better off without both.

sj,
If Russia and Serbia are doing so well economically, why haven't you moved to either. We all know why. You are a simple lying Troll, thus have no credibility.

J

Neither does Serbia and Montenegro.
(Navi, 15 May 2017 22:44)

In this case you're right. I figured you were talking about Kosova and Serbia; since the article mentions Kosova in some distant future being a NATO member and Serbia being out.

Someone else mentioned relations between Germans and Austrians. My point was that no matter how bad they are; they are nowhere near as bad as between Serbs and Albanians.

Russia is not a friend. It has too many hang ups. Russia is a user. Russia is poor.

Russia wants to expand, but by means that will backfire in the long run - czars lost, commies lost. President for life Putin is as bad.

I think that mister Bugajski is confusing the USA with Russia. The USA is on the west and Russia is on the east. The USA is famous for causing crises and then inserting as mediators (Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya... and on, and on, and on). Ask anyone in Serbia who lost a love one on the illegal bombing of 1999 about how they will feel about Serbia joining NATO. Good luck with that!

Janusz earned his 50c. His masters will be pleased.

What he writes is complete bollox of course. It is King Djukanovic's endemic corruption that is keeping Montenegro out. Joining NATO is NOT a condition for becoming an EU member state, but any fool knows that.

Serbs love NATO! How else can reelection of government that implements ipap and gives immunity to all NATO officials from Serbian laws be seen? Also has Serbian army hold many training missions with NATO soldiers! Serbia loves NATO

Janusz Bugajski seem to be a prime candidate for a mental hospital.

"I personally do not buy this idea that Serbia wants to be neutral, because remember, Yugoslavia under Tito was non-aligned, was neutral. But sooner or later, you have to choose. "

No. We don't have to choose. Self-respecting country would ask for explanatian - Who are you to tell us what we have to do? Is this a threat?

"I cannot imagine any Serbian officer wanting to be more closely aligned with the Russian military – a lot of it is obsolete, and the funding now is really going to go down, you are going to see real problems in Russia – rather than to be a part of the most modern military organization in the world. It does not make sense to me. You want to be part of the best, not second best.

Yes, countries normally make political decisions based on what generals want, not the other way around???
Where? In south American military juntas?

"In the Russian tradition is to start conflicts and then inject itself as a mediator, which enhances its role in the regions.

Yes. Like in 90's.
Russian's started wars in former Yugoslavia, then they came as mediators, built Bondsteel base, etc. etc.

Seriously?????

Is it any wonder that the US is in such a state with so called senior fellow making statements as "if Montenegro becomes more successful and attracts more investments” ?
What has joining NATO to do with investments? And does this imbecile, Janusz Bugajski, think that he is talking to children?
Croatia is a member of NATO and not a Euro cent has been invested there. Then there is Albania and it still resides in the middle ages with a lack of everything including investment.
Montenegro only has tourism and nothing else so who does this buffoon think is going to invest in Montenegro? It would have already happened if there was money to be made.
To invest the investor has to see an opportunity to make lots of money and it has nothing to do with NATO or EU membership.
Mr Bugajski first step is head out of arse then take a trip to Poland and see how successful its been since joining NATO and the EU – perhaps you might tell those Poles that live outside Poland because there is no work at home. Last time I looked there were over 2 million Poles outside.
Don’t stop there fly up to the Baltic countries and see how they are going too. Remember that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are all in NATO and EU members.
You talk about Russian meddling, eh? Did they meddle in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Syria or maybe arm and train ISIL?
God help us from these idiots.
