sj, this article isn't about Pius. It's about Stepanic. Stepanic may have loved the Catholic Church and an Independent Croatia, but it doesn't mean he didn't follow his own beliefs and risked his life doing so to save Serbs and Jews. Your propaganda is that if he was the top Catholic in Croatia during nazi occupation and he is Croatian, then he must be guilty. You have no evidence that he supported the killing of any people, you only have chetnik propaganda.
(King Tomislav, 16 February 2017 19:08)

The book has plenty on Stepinac so I suggest that you read it and by the way John Cornwell is a British catholic not a chetnik mate.

Montenegro (as well as Kosovo) is a territory of the Serbian Church and there's no power to force the 13 Orthodox Churches change their rules. They do not obey UNO nor NATO nor Putin or anybody else on the Earth.
(rote, 16 February 2017 14:49)

So this does mean the Montenegrin Orthodox Church is taking part.
They have such a beautiful church in the middle of Podgorica. It must be hundreds of years old.

Try reading John Cornwell's Hitler's Pope. It covers this issue of Stepinac at some length. Cornwell is an academic, author and catholic who started writing this book to vindicate Pope Pius XII who he thought was innocent of charges laid against him of anti-Semitism, failure to denounce Nazism or Croatian barbaric behaviour towards the Serbs.
After his finished his research, and he had access to Vatican library material that many other scholars do not have even today, he was horrified to find out that there was more than sufficient evidence of the Pope’s guilt.
If that was not enough about 600 Croatian Catholic clergy were wanted as war criminals after the war.

Oh they're going to meet in Montenegro too.
Does this mean the Montenegran Orthodox Church is also included in this committee?

How can we complain about this when we have rehabilitated pretty much every war criminal we ever had?

We have set a dangerous precedent with Draza and Nedic, and apparently now it's OK to be a Nazi.

chetniks should do their homework before commenting. Stepinac was imprisoned several times and constantly threatened with death for speaking out against the nazis and saving Serbs and Jews. he saved them any way he could and that included conversions. chetniks claim he should have done more like he had some power over hitler, chetniks have no argument only lies. Listen to the testimony of the orthodox living in Croatia that he saved, not the propaganda from belgrade. See interview link of Dr. Gitman who actually researched it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9EupkoGmig

Was there ever a more ridiculous reason to set up a commission. Investigating what? There is absolutely no question that this lowlife was a Nazi sympathiser and Pavelic's guardian angel. How else did the likes of this Ustashi scum manage to escape justice. The ratlines to South America and elsewhere via the Vatican are as real as the trans-Siberian Railway. It's just sad to see the Orthodox Church giving these agent-provocateurs succor and the oxygen of publicity. Let them make him a saint,it'll be Hitler next. That bunch of miscreants in Rome lost all credibility a long time ago and would be better spending their time removing paedophiles from their ranks!

Stepinac & Pavelic represented a country allied with Nazi Germany in WW2.

Great atrocities were committed by this country in WW2

Unlike other fascist Nazi countries, Croatia's was infected with an awful clerical fascism.

These Croats never get any brighter LOl. Here is you problem. For 600 years the money has been in Europe and the west, but now its in the east. The catholic church is seeking a place on the table of new world leaders and that can only be achieved by making up with the Orthodox church.

Personally, I hope they canonize the arse hole Stepinac and that way that evil organisation called the Catholic Church dies a very long, painful and horrible death.

As an atheist I find the idea of making people saints fasical.

As a human being, I find the idea of canonising that man to be wicked and provocative.

Croatia and the Roman Church would do better to acknowledge the shame of that period of history.

This whole thing started with that stupid polish pope John Paul. He wanted to make saints any single priest who has been condemned by the communists in order to change history and play victims when we all know that these priests and their chiefs collaborated with the fashists and then nazists. In Albania they did the same and are making saints people who were condemned for their being collaborators . No doubts the only reason is that Vatican is in difficulties in all major countries for the scandal of the pedophile clergy so it promotes these false "heroes" in small countries like Croatia and Albania. It is just a huge pr campaign for these people who have no shame nor do they fear God. I wrote these things in a croatian site and mainly young people there agreed with me on this topic.

You people are so stupid. Do you really think the Vatican is going to deny a respected and honorary Catholic Cardinal the right to be canonised as a saint. By Christmas he will be officially recognised as a great great man and the Serbs will need to be aware that another 100 monuments will be placed in the Balkans in his honour.
