BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic conferred on Thursday with representatives of the Association of Banat Farmers. Vucic and farmers talked about on systemic solutions in the area of agriculture, and announced that farmers will be paid out the rest of subsidies for this year. Vucic confers with representatives of Banat Farmers Miroslav Grubanov, members of the Association of Banat Farmers, told reporters after the meeting that following Monday's protest almost 90 percent of this year's subsidies have been paid out, adding that Vucic promised them that the rest will be paid out in the coming ten days. Representatives of the Association of Banat Farmers staged a protest in front of the Serbian government's building on Monday as this year's subsidies are late and the purchase price of wheat is low - RSD 16 while the production cost stands at RSD 20. The farmers also asked to buy oil for autumn sowing at the price of RSD 100 per liter instead of RSD 150 per liter as they paid so far and then waited for the government to return them RSD 50. It was stated at the meeting with Vucic that it is now late to change the manner of purchase of fuel, and that in spring farmers will be provided with cards with which they will be able to buy fuel at subsidized price right away, Grubanov said. “As for the upcoming sowing of sunflower, soy, sugar beat and corn, we were promised that in the next day or two we will continue talks with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture in order to find solutions so that farmers and their products do not get undermined,” Grubanov said. The meeting also tabled the issues of further development of agriculture, he said, adding that the requests for support to small farms gained understanding. Vucic announced a credit line from the United Arab Emirates which will be directed at the Serbian economy, Grubanov said. He expressed hope that this is the beginning of a new cooperation with the authorities, and announced that a new meeting with the Serbian deputy prime minister will be held in about 20 days. /Tanjug, file/ Tanjug
