RDP B92 has released a statement for the press in the wake of the latest developments. B92 has been exposed to numerous attacks and threats from its establishment, due to our objective and professional approach to reporting on the issues that public in Serbia should know about, the statement, signed by CEO Veran Matic, says. B92 reacts to recent attacks "We have done so without making the reality look better and without suppressing and avoiding facts. Attacks and threats towards B92 always intensify during dramatic events our society faces." "This comes especially since B92 is among only a handful, if not the only broadcaster in Serbia, that dares to report on the issues others kept silent about, via its programs such as Insider and B92 Investigates," the statement said. "It is evident that there are those who want the silence to continue. Unfortunately, this is the case now when the protests over the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence are being directed toward a media outlet that tries to keep its unbiased and professional approach, while investigating things that stand behind the news." "During the past couple of days, those threats saw a seriously escalated, both via electronic messages as well as on Internet forums, where B92 receives open threats from people who discuss their plans of setting our headquarters on fire – a building which happens to be state property, as B92 only rents it," the press release reads. "They even went one step further, producing video clips edited to show our journalists being shot at. On Sunday night, the window B92 Shop downtown was broken. Moreover, the statements of some politicians who justify violence in Belgrade and throughout Serbia, presenting it as democratic, only stir additional violent outbursts instead of calming the situation down, by clearly condemning such attacks." In view of all this, RDP B92 has filed a complaint with the competent prosecutor’s office regarding the B92 Shop attack. "The Ministry of the Interior is also informed about the threats we are exposed to. We expect that state bodies will do everything in their power, fully comprehending the seriousness of the situation, to provide order and safety to the people and property in Belgrade, at the same time respecting human and civil rights, not only of B92, but towards all others that might be exposed to similar threats and assaults." "As a media company, B92 will continue to do what it had always done in the past: report in an unbiased manner on the issues the public is entitled to know about. We are determined to continue to do so and we will not give up," the statement concludes.
