Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic says President Boris Tadic must decide “as soon as possible” if early presidential elections will be held. “If we have regular parliamentary and local elections then I don’t see a logical argument to call early presidential elections,” he told daily Vecernje novosti. “Tadic must decide on presidential election soon” Dacic added that, if the president resigned in April there would be no guarantees that Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic would schedule the presidential elections for May 6, when parliamentary and local elections will be held. “She can do it 30 to 90 days from the day of the resignation. We can vote in presidential elections in the summer,” the SPS leader stressed and added that Tadic and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic wanted early presidential elections so they could “divide” Serbia among themselves. “The idea to let the parliamentary and local campaigns get going full force and that he (Tadic) then resigns in the beginning of April and starts his presidential campaign will not work,” Dacic was quoted as saying.
