Interior Minister Dragan Jocic and his driver were injured in a car crash near Velika Plana last night. In a statement this morning, the Interior Ministry said that Jocic had been transferred to the Banjica Orthopaedic Clinic, where he has undergone surgery, and is now convalescing in the ICU. The injuries to his spine are described as serious. A Velika Plana investigative judge, who arrived on the scene within minutes, ascertained that the Mercedes they were driving had hit a dog that had wandered out on to the highway. The car had then swerved into the central reservation, flipping over on collision. According to the ministry, the accident took place at 11.30 p.m Friday. Jocic, one of the top Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) officials, whose condition remains serious but stable this evening, was today visited in hospital by Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and President Boris Tadic.
