Tadić to finish Japan visit in Kyoto

Serbian President Boris Tadic will finish his four-day visit to Japan in the country's ancient capital Kyoto. In the former capital and seat of Japan's ancient culture Tadic will visit some of the 17 monuments included on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list - the Golden Pavilion and Shogun Palace. Tadic to finish Japan visit in Kyoto The Golden Pavilion, or Kinkakuji, was built in the 14th century and burnt to the ground in the early 1950s. It was rebuilt in 1955. Kyoto is known as a university town with 20,000 students, and the seat of video game maker Nintendo. Tadic will arrive in Kyoto from Tokyo, where he was received by Emperor Akihito and had a series of meetings with officials and businessmen. In addition to the reception with the Emperor - the first in the history of Japan-Serbia relations, Tadic also met with Prime Minister Naoto Kan. The two agreed there is a lot of room to improve bilateral cooperation on all levels, and expressed mutual support for the goals of the two countries - Serbia's EU integration and Japan's entry into the group of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. After the meeting, it was announced that Japan will grant a 28.2bn yen loan to Serbia for the desulphurization of the Thermal Power Plant in Obrenovac. Among the topics discussed was visa liberalization. In Tokyo, Tadic also opened a business forum, where he urged Japanese companies to invest in Serbia, because it is a democratic and politically stable country.
