Boris Tadic believes Serbia needs a socially responsible government, and one formed on the basis of national reconciliation. "My job is to start a national reconciliation in Serbia, to have the political forces of the 1990s and those that were at the helm of Serbia after 2000 join together in reaching common goals, to reconcile the population, tensions and misunderstandings." Tadic wants national reconciliation "Serious words must go into the oblivion and we must try to enter the next decade as a stable and prosperous country," the Serbian president and leader of the Democratic Party said in Stara Pazova, Vojvodina, ahead of the provincial elections second round next Sunday. Tadic told reporters at his "For European Vojvodina" ticket promotion that he would discuss putting together a new ruling coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), and that he supported cooperation between the Socialists and the parties of his coalition at the local level, which has already been agreed in some municipalities. He again expressed his confidence that the DS-led coalition will form the new government, "which will be guided by social justice principles and will, at the same time, defend the state's European path and its territorial integrity". According to Tadic, this coalition is "prepared to form a cabinet with all those parties that want a European Serbia, who want to defend the country's integrity, to create new jobs and who will not make false promises with their national policy". Tadic promised that the government of Serbia "will be guided by social justice principles and that it will do everything to distribute the weight of development of the society equally and not to have it burden only the pensioners, farmers and workers". "I believe that the government may be formed only if we develop a realistic plan of how to secure new jobs and pensions, how to attract investments, and not only of how to attract two or three million euros into Serbia, but how to head towards five billion, because that is the only way pensions may reach 70 percent of the wages. Everything else would be a rotten lie and deception of citizens," underscored Tadic. Boris Tadic (FoNet, archive) Formal talks after final results The Democratic Party, after the release of the final results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia, will intensify consultations and start formal talks on the formation of the Serbian government with parties with similar programs which would make up a stable government and lead Serbia for the next four years, the party said on Monday. The DS added that in the informal consultations conducted so far, discussion was with parties with similar programs, and with the coalition gathered around the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), about setting up the authorities at the lower level – that of municipalities and cities. "Following repeated speculation in the media about the manner and course of negotiations on the formation of the future Serbian government, we are stating that the 'For European Serbia' ticket is doing everything, so that a European and nationally responsible government can emerge that will advocate principles of social justice," the statement issued in Belgrade said. Dinkic: Government by mid-July Meanwhile, also in Belgrade today, G17 Plus leader Mladjan Dinkic said that there is "a 95 percent chance that Serbia would have a new government by mid-July", and that by late June the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the European Union will be passed and ratified in the parliament "with 142 votes". Serbian President and head of the "For a European Serbia" ticket Boris Tadic will announce the future premier-designate in the next few days, Dinkic told B92. In reference to the situation in Belgrade, the G17 Plus leader, whose party is, along with Tadic's Democrats and three other parties allied in a pre-election coalition, pointed out that it is "out of question that the authority that will be formed at the local level will be different from the one at the state level, because it would be 'serving two masters'". He confirmed that the DS-led coalition did not officially speak to the Socialists, but that that there are "informal contact with those with whom it is possible to form a parliamentary majority".
