IMF boss Age Bakker says Kosovo’s membership of the organization "will play a key role" in the future economic development, reports the Pristina press. Bakker met in the Kosovo capital yesterday with President Fatmir Sejdiu, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, Speaker Jakup Krasniqi and Economy and Finance Minister Ahmet Shala. "IMF membership to boost Kosovo development" “Kosovo’s membership of the IMF is of special importance for the next steps in the area of economic development,” said Bakker, adding that it would facilitate Kosovo’s accession to other financial organizations. Shala said that he hoped that “Kosovo will become part of the World Bank on June 3.” Bakker was in Pristina to see the provincial assembly adopt the law on Kosovo’s accession to the IMF. Deputies stated that membership would help enhance fiscal and macrofinancial stability in Kosovo and offer better conditions for foreign investors. Kosovo received its invitation for IMF membership on May 5, while voting on its application for membership of the World Bank will end on June 3, reports the Pristina press, confident of the successful outcome of that ballot.
