Police has fired live ammunition and tear gas at thousands of Syrians who protested in the city of Daraa for a third consecutive day, news agencies reported. A prominent Syrian writer and activist who is in contact with residents and witnesses in Daraa, Mazen Darwish, said one person, Raed al-Ekrad, was killed and two others suffered serious gunshot wounds when police opened fire on demonstrators calling for political freedoms and shouting anti-government slogans, the AP reported. Police shoot at protesters in Syria Darwish said that more than 200 people received medical help for inhaling tear gas near the mosque that has been transformed in a field hospital. Enraged protesters set fire to several local government buildings in Daraa near the border with Jordan, according to state media and a witness.
