Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed in Ljubljana on Tuesday that the South Stream natural gas pipeline project would go ahead. He met with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor, after which the two prime ministers held a news conference for around two hundred foreign and local reporters and their crews. After that, Putin met with Slovenian President Danilo Tirk and Parliament Speaker Pavel Gantar. At the news conference the two prime ministers said that relations between Russia and Slovenia "are very good and friendly" as demonstrated by the two countries' extremely fruitful economic cooperation and deeper political ties. Putin said that, although Russia was currently considering "different versions" of the pipeline project, "nothing will stop us from carrying out the South Stream project."
