Frank-Walter Steinmeier says he believes that the SAA will be signed very shortly between Bosnia-Herzegovina and the EU. The German foreign minister said that following the adoption of police reform laws, “we can make an assessment of all the fields in which reforms are needed. I am convinced that we will be able to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) without delay,” Steinmeier assured. EU pleased with police reform laws European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn also showed support for yesterday’s adoption of the police reform laws. According to the European Commission in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Rehn said that the country had confirmed signing of the SAA with the adoption of the reforms. The SAA will bring practical benefits in the field of trade, through which the Bosnian economy will profit, and also represents a path to EU membership. “I am very pleased by the fact that politicians in Bosnia-Herzegovina have listened to the voices of their citizens, who support European integration, prosperity and progress, and this has been demonstrated by the majority vote required in both parliaments for the adoption of the police reform laws,” the commissioner said. Bosnia-Herzegovina International High Representative Miroslav Lajcak also lauded the adoption of the laws. “With the adoption of these laws, the legal process that the institutions have been working on since December are complete, and a road has been opened for signing the SAA with the EU,” said Lajcak. He said that “having set off on this road,” no country had ever failed to become an EU member. “This decision sends a strong message to the EU and investors that Bosnia-Herzegovina is making progress and is open for business,” the high representative said. EU Foreign and Security Policies Chief Javier Solana said that adoption of the laws was “of key importance” for the country. “I hope that the SAA will be signed soon based on a positive assessment of all elements,” Solana stated.
