The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government has announced that the number of public sector employees should be reduced by 14,512.

14,512 public sector employees to be laid off

It added that the decisions adopted concerned full-time employees, and that 8,511 would be laid off from state organs, 250 from provincial institutions in Vojvodina, and 5,751 from local self-governments.

The ministry specified that the decisions concerned the entire public sector, including public enterprises at the local level, but not those at the state level, for whom the government has "specific programs for restructuring."

Considering there are currently 514,573 full-time employees in Serbia's public sector, the announced cuts amount to 2.82 percent of that workforce, on average.
