Election campaign leaves URS and LDP "in debt"

The Democratic Party (DS) and the United Regions of Serbia (URS) spent the most on the parliamentary election campaign, according to the Anti-Corruption Agency. At the same time, the United Regions of Serbia (URS) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) ended up in debt since they spent more funds during the campaign than they had raised, a news conference heard in Belgrade on Monday. The URS spent around RSD 458 million, mostly on TV advertising, RSD 405 million, but they have not covered all expenses. The LDP is also in debt, both from the parliamentary and presidential campaigns. The LDP collected RSD 80 million for the parliamentary election, but they spent RSD 228 million, while they collected RSD 42 million for the presidential campaign of their leader Cedomir Jovanovic and spent RSD 59 million. The Serbian Progressive Party spent around RSD 307 million for the parliamentary campaign. Most of that money came from the budget, RSD 212 million, private individuals, RSD 43 million , and a loan from Univerzal Bank, RSD 48 million. The SPS-PUPS-JS coalition, according to Minic, got RSD 132 million from the budget and RSD 55 million from donations, with RSD 45 million coming from private natural persons and ranging from RSD 3,000 to RSD 850,000. The coalition spent RSD 114 million on TV advertisements and RSD 40 million on Ivica Dacic's presidential campaign. A total of 988 reports on election campaign costs have been filed so far, including all levels of elections, Minic noted, adding that 370 reports had been verified, 3 for the presidential, 14 for the parliamentary, 3 for the provincial and the rest for the local elections.
